We’re signing up sponsors. Our basic website is up and running (www.onanysundayreunion.com). We’ll have all the ticket ordering on line later in the week. We want to put up a page for “remembrences” or such. What did On Any Sunday mean to you? How did it influence your life? If you were in the movie do you have a good story? How was it working with Bruce? Anything and everything would be great. Dave Evans (who did the great “out of sight” wheelie in the movie) told me a neat story about meeting the late Doug Domokas and finding out that his wheelie scene in OAS was the catalyst in getting doug into Wheelies! How good is that? So take a few minutes and write me out a nice little story, bio, whatever. Most appreciated. Hope to see you May 21st for a great evening. More, from a press release issued by Parts Canada Superbike Championship organizers: DIVERSITY RULES IN TWO-WHEEL READERS’ CHOICE NOMINEES Breadth of Canadian racing talent represented by Inside Track Award nominees TORONTO, ON Twelve racers representing five disciplines of motorcycle competition highlight the nominees for this year’s Inside Track Readers’ Choice Awards presented by Castrol in the Motorcycle Racer of the Year and Up-and-Coming Motorcycle Racer of the Year categories. The list of nominees includes champions in road racing, flat track, drag racing and hare scrambles, along with rising stars in a wide array of competition arenas. “Canada seems to be able to produce fantastic riders in a wide range of motorcycle racing pursuits,” said John Hopkins, editor of Inside Motorcycles. “What makes the Readers’ Choice Awards special is each of this country’s top competitors, regardless of their discipline, gets a chance to enjoy the spotlight and be recognized for their excellence.” Motorcycle Racer of the Year category features two road racers, Steve Crevier and Jordan Szoke, motocrosser Colton Facciotti, drag racer Gord Smith, flat tracker Donald Taylor and off-road ace Chris Van Hove. Szoke and Crevier are already legends in Canadian racing and Szoke is the defending winner of the Motorcycle Racer of the Year Award. The 28-year-old from Brantford, Ont. enjoyed another remarkable season on the Parts Canada Superbike Championship tour, winning his second straight Superbike and Pro 600 Sport Bike titles for the Canadian Kawasaki Motors factory team. Crevier was Szoke’s closest challenger and placed runner-up in both Pro divisions last summer. The Maple Ridge, B.C. racer won three Superbike events for Team Toyota Yamaha / Fast Company to improve his all-time leading total to 26 victories. Long considered one of Canada’s budding motocross stars, Facciotti enjoyed the best season of his young career in 2007. The Blackfoot Yamaha rider from Aldergrove, B.C. was the top Canadian in the Monster Energy MX Nationals and placed second overall. He ended his season on a high with an excellent performance for the Canadian team at the Motocross of Nations in Budds Creek, MD. Smith was probably the most impressive racer in CMDRA drag racing competition in 2007. The Kelowna native claimed his fourth Pro Mod crown in five years and made the finals in every race a dominant season if there ever was one. Taylor enjoyed a flat track season for the ages. The young speedster from Welland, Ont. won his fourth CMA National Dirt Track title with a perfect season and added his first CMRC Harley-Davidson National title along the way. Newly signed to Harley after racing with Suzuki backing last year, Taylor looks primed to make his mark south of the border in 2008. Van Hove was among the off-road elite in 2007. The KTM racer from Simcoe, Ont. won another CMA National Hare Scrambles title and lost out on adding the Enduro crown by a single point. Up and Coming Motorcycle Racer of the Year The six nominees for Up and Coming Motorcycle Racer of the Year point to a very bright future for Canadian racing. Shawn Ford of Repentigny, Que. emerged as a rising star on the Canadian flat track scene by claiming the Pro 450 title in the CMRC Harley-Davidson Flat Track Series and finishing second to Taylor in Pro Open. Keene, Ont.’s Paul Glenn enjoyed a busy but successful road racing season in 2007. The Suzuki rider won the International Motorcycle SUPERSHOW Amateur 600 Sport Bike title and, south of the border, teamed up with Ross Millson to help Go Big Racing to a second place finish in the Sport Twins class of the SunTrust MOTO-ST endurance series. Before the start of last year’s road racing season, few people would have recognized the name Israel Johnas, but the Oak Lake, Man. racer took his Kawasaki to a pair of Amateur 600 Sport Bike national wins. Suzuki rider Jeremy Medaglia was one of the most impressive young riders on the Canadian motocross scene. The Kemptville, Ont. racer won the Rick Joseph Memorial Award at the Walton TransCan Grand National after taking the Intermediate 125 championship and placing second in 250 and GP Intermediate. A native of Australia now living in Parry Sound, Ont., Jake Stapleton took the Canadian off-road scene by storm in 2007, riding his Yamaha to third in the CMA National Hare Scrambles Series thanks to victories in the last four races. He added a win in the daunting Corduroy Enduro to boot, and will no doubt be a force in off-road racing in this country and perhaps internationally in years to come. Shane Wiebe of Abbotsford, B.C. was another young rider to make a big impression on the Canadian MX season last season. At the Western Canadian Amateur Nationals in Raymond, Alta. the Yamaha rider swept the Intermediate 125, 250 and GP titles to earn the Gaerne Bronze Boot. The Inside Track Readers’ Choice Awards presented by Castrol also include a category for the Canadian Racer of the Year Competing at the Highest Level of International Competition. For 2007 that division features two motorcycle racers, Supercross star Darcy Lange and drag race ace Mike Konopacki. Last year Lange picked up his third Arenacross Championship aboard his Kawasaki and also placed third in the very competitive Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Lites East Series. The Courtenay, B.C. native earned three podium finishes in the seven races. Konopacki was Canada’s top drag racer in international competition last season. The Oshawa, Ont. racer was in contention for three AMA/Prostar titles and ended up winning Pro ET, finishing second in Super Comp and third in Top Gas. Fans can access the Inside Track Readers’ Choice Awards ballot through the Inside Motorcycles website (www.insidemotorcycles.com) and voting ends Friday, Mar. 14. Results will be posted on the website, and in the May issue of Inside Motorcycles. More, from a press release issued on behalf of Mallory Park: Multimillion pound makeover for Mallory Park Mallory Park is undergoing a massive reconstruction to expand its facilities and improve the current ones. The Leicestershire circuit has two mottos, “The Friendly circuit” and “The little circuit with the big view,” and with both of these in mind it is aiming to improve on what it can offer as a venue. Having landed its first ever world level event, the British round of the FIM World Motocross Grand Prix which it will host on Sunday 1st June, Mallory is well on the way to putting itself on the map. The venue already has a motocross track which will now be modified to FIM standards taking it to 1600m long and containing 22 turns mixed with jumps and obstacles. Included in the changes is the famous Bus Stop chicane, the banked spectator area has been restructured to improve viewing and expand the run off area. This is also where the Rallycross and Supermoto track exit road has been added. “Adding the Rallycross track is something we have been looking at and whilst we are carrying out works to the run off areas we thought we should incorporate some of the modifications required,” explained John Ward General Manager of the circuit. With Rallycross becoming popular again Mallory Park decided it would be a useful asset bolstering its off road potential. With the Rallycross track in place Supermoto events could also run on it. The Stebbe Straight is gaining more run off and the paddock will be expanding as new Armco is being installed at the Esses, this will also benefit the spectators too as it increases the viewing area. Run off at the Esses out has been extended to 6 metres by removing the bank through to the hairpin but sadly the Oak tree has had to succumb to the changes. An area that is very important to Mallory Park is maintaining and improving the viewing areas for spectators. Banking round the track has been increased and a large amount of landscaping has been carried out to make some great viewing spots and provide a large car parking area within the venue. “This parking area will offer better opportunities for events such as the Festival of 1000 Bikes where large elements of the activities are off the track,” said Ward. “Space is always at a premium for BSB events too, the complete finished area toward the top of the Devil’s Elbow will give more space and better access for traders too. Generally the work will create a better, tidier Mallory Park and open the doors for possible other events such as trade shows, caravan rallies, owners club weekends and more.” Further developments are planned throughout 2008 continuing into 2009, the view has improved and with more modifications in the pipe line the friendly circuit just got friendlier. The VIR 400 is renamed the Bosch Engineering 250 at VIR. The series, which will be held on April 26-27, will be the same distance as in prior years, but will now be stated in miles instead of kilometers. With a heritage of automotive innovation going back to the introduction of magneto ignition and spark plugs in 1902, Bosch opened the company’s first U.S. factory in 1910 to take advantage of the growing American automobile market. The now familiar ‘armature in a circle’ trademark became the company’s logo in 1919 and can be seen on a wide variety of industrial and domestic products. These products range from the familiar spark plugs and oxygen sensors to home appliances, lighting equipment, industrial robots and packaging materials and methods that protect many of the items on store shelves. “We are thrilled to have Bosch as title sponsor of our Grand-Am events,” said VIR General Manager Josh Lief. “The Bosch Engineering 250 at VIR is the biggest sports car race of the year at VIR and we’re pleased that Bosch is using this race to promote its products and services.” W. Keith Andrews, regional president for Bosch Engineering USA, said that Bosch Engineering is “very happy to be a part of Grand-Am and we are pleased to extend our relationship from technical partner for engine management systems to become the event sponsor. As a permanent road racing facility, VIR is the perfect venue to showcase this form of motorsports. “The facility has received international acclaim as one of the world’s most beautiful and challenging circuits, and continues to push the envelope of what a racetrack can be,” said Andrews, whose father was the 1972 champion of the original NASCAR Grand American Series. Wolfgang Hustedt, racing programs manager for Bosch automotive aftermarket, said: “Bosch has been improving automobile performance from the inception of the company. VIR will give us an opportunity to showcase existing technology and put it to the test in some very challenging conditions. That experience will allow us to continue to improve reliability and durability of our products and build on the Bosch heritage of innovation.” Joining the exotic Daytona Prototypes and GT cars of the Rolex Sports Car Series will be the inaugural race of the SCCA VW Jetta TDI Series. This race will see the unveiling of up to 35 identically-prepared Diesel Jetta sedans, all racing over VIR’s scenic 3.27-mile Full Course. In addition to the racing, the Bosch Engineering 250 at VIR weekend will see the introduction of the Society of Automotive Engineers Collegiate Design Series to VIR. This event pits student teams representing more than 40 universities from around the world in a contest to design and build the best car possible. Teams from Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, UNC Charlotte, MIT, BA Ravensburg-Friedrichshafen, Old Dominion University, Auburn and University of Calgary will be compared in design, engineering and on-track competition to see which university can create the best designed, best handling and most efficient racer. Making the weekend even more exciting, the motorcycle riders of SunTrust MOTO-ST bring their Super Twin racers to VIR’s Full Course in the VIR 500k enduro race for two-wheeled competitors. With entries from Buell, BMW, Suzuki and more, the twin cylinder bikes race with limited modifications on some of the best road courses on the continent, providing excitement for riders and fans alike. The October 3-5 KONI Challenge races, the finale for that series, will also have Bosch as a title sponsor. The twin races will be named the Bosch Engineering Twin Six Hour KONI Challenge Races. Pitting sports coupes and sedans against each other over VIR, that weekend pairs the cars with a crowd-pleasing variety of drifting, motorcycle races and stunt shows and on-track competition for the tuner crowd, attracting some of the best drivers and riders in the business. Tickets for the Bosch Engineering 250 at VIR can be purchased at the VIR Web site at www.virclub.com or by calling 434-822-7700, x 116. VIRginia International Raceway is a multi-purpose road racing facility, located on the Dan River between Danville and South Boston, Virginia. Reopened in 2000, VIR hosts a wide range professional and amateur auto and motorcycle racing and track events, and is well established as “America’s Motorsport Resort.” In addition to its historic 3.27-mile natural-terrain road racing circuit, VIR is the cornerstone of VIR Club, America’s first motorsports country club; the VIR Raceplex Industrial Park and Motorsports Technology Park, which includes the Virginia Institute for Performance Engineering and Research (“VIPER”); the Plantation Valley Kart Track, a 5/8-mile paved natural terrain karting circuit; an expanding variety of on-site lodging (including 45 hotel rooms and the trackside Villas which are for sale); Camp Motorsport for enthusiasts of all ages; and the Oak Tree Tavern, a full-service restaurant located within the circa-1840 Plantation Clubhouse. The Bosch Group is a leading global supplier of technology and services. In the areas of automotive and industrial technology, consumer goods, and building technology, some 272,000 associates generated sales of 46.1 billion euros in fiscal 2007. The Bosch Group comprises Robert Bosch GmbH and its roughly 300 subsidiary and regional companies in over 50 countries.
