From a press release issued by Cascade Tracktime: It has been a long time coming, but we are happy that Portland International Raceway has been repaved and reconfigured over the off season. We are very excited to have a brand new surface and new layout right in our own backyard. With the new surface we have an opportunity to upgrade the safety aspects of the track as well. New curbing has been installed, drainage improved as well as a host of other ongoing improvements to the facility. To showcase the newly upgraded facility, the Friends of PIR are hosting a “Grand Reopening” February 23-24, 2008. In cooperation with the Friends of PIR (FOPIR) and the Oregon Region Porsche Club of America, Cascade Tracktime will offer motorcycle lapping sessions on February 24th. Of course, motorcycle users have specific safety needs to be addressed. With that in mind, all proceeds generated by Cascade Tracktime will be donated back to FOPIR, and FOPIR has graciously offered to earmark that donation toward motorcycle safety initiatives for the track (i.e., non-skid paint, Airfence Safety Systems, etc.). The price for the event is only $100. Go to www.cascadetracktime.com to sign up for the event and space is limited so book early. Not able to attend this event? Donations may be made directly to FOPIR and earmarked toward motorcycle safety. To make a donation or for more details on the Friends of PIR, go to www.friendsofpir.com.
