From a press release issued by Don Emde: The Rocket III/Trident Owners Club has announced that the 17th annual “Beezumph” Rally at Cadwell Park in England, scheduled for August 15-16, will celebrate the first Trans-Atlantic Match Race Series, held in 1971. Details and final confirmations are still in progress, but invited to serve as Grand Marshals are members of the original American Match Race Team: David Aldana, Don Castro, Don Emde, Dick Mann, Jim Rice, and Gene Romero, as well as famous chassis builder Rob North, whose racing frames were used by all of the machines in the series. The original series, which was won by the British team, was run in April of 1971 in conjunction with the annual Easter Series at Brands Hatch, Mallory Park and Oulton Park. The Birmingham Small Arms Company, makers of BSA and Triumph brands, was the primary sponsor of the series and all of the British and American riders raced 750cc BSA and Triumph triples. Members of the 1971 British team such as John Cooper, Tony Jeffries, Paul Smart and Percy Tait, as well as other notables in the history of the three-cylinder 750cc BSA and Triumph are also expected to be in attendance at the Beezumph Rally. More details to follow as they become available.
