From a press release issued by MV Agusta: Following three successful years in the STK FIM World Cup, MV Agusta has decided to concentrate its efforts in developing the SBK version of the F4 RR 312 in collaboration with Team Gimotorsports, headed by Gigi D’Esposito, and Team Factory SBK of Leo Ghelfi. The racing program for 2008 will see MV Agusta compete in the Italian Superbike Championship and, depending on the level of competitiveness achieved, in select rounds in the World Superbike Championship. Luca Scassa will be the only factory backed rider and will ride for the Unionbike Gimotorsports Team. His bikes will be developed directly by the MV Agusta racing department in Schiranna Varese (Italy). The Factory SBK Team headed by Leo Ghelfi will follow an independent development program but will coordinate its efforts directly with MV Agusta’s racing department. The rider for 2008 will be Maurizio Pratichizzo. MV Agusta’s racing program in the Australian Superbike Championship will continue throughout 2008 at the highest level thanks to top-level rider Kevin Curtain who will ride for Steve Trinder’s Team TBR Racing. In the German IDM-SBK Championship the bikes will be run by Team Inghart and ridden by Kay Borre (2nd in last year’s IDM-SBK Championship) Georg Wechselburg and Marco Erdmannhausen. Participation in the AMA SBK Championship with Team Fast by Ferracci and in the English Superbike Championship with teams X Bikes and STP Motorsports is still to be organised. Fabrice Montoya and his Team Moto-TV will increase their efforts in the French SBK Championship and in every round of the Endurance World Championship.
