From a press release issued on behalf of Mallory Park: Motorcycling legend, Giacomo Agostini will take to the Mallory Park race track at the Vintage Motor Cycle Club’s Festival of 1000 Bikes on the 12th-13th July. Multiple World Champion and 10 times TT winner, Agostini, returns to the Friendly Circuit where he was beaten by local motorcycle racer John Cooper back in 1971 at the Race of the Year. John Cooper will also attend the event and he will be bringing along his BSA Rocket 3 which he beat Agostini on all those years ago. A plethora of riders from yesteryear will join the duelling pair on track for the Stars Parade which forms the highlight of the Festival. The Ace Café is celebrating its 70th anniversary and will provide a Rocker’s music special on during the weekend as part of the entertainment in the VMCC’s Big top. Extensive landscape work and track modifications at Mallory Park will ensure even more space for the displays of classic machinery, and much improved viewing areas for spectators – the little circuit with the big view just got better. With many Classic Motorcycle clubs using the Festival as their annual rally the event is expected to go from strength to strength and everyone is encouraged to take to the hallowed tarmac to show off their machinery. To date 1400 entry forms have gone out for the Festival of 1000 Bikes. Three track sessions at Mallory Park during the course of the weekend are available to VMCC members for £65 and £74 for non-members. For further information on the event please visit www.vmcc.net.
