The Boulder Motor Sports team is currently waiting for AMA Pro Racing tech officials to issue final 2008 Superbike technical rules before deciding to return to the Formula Xtreme class with the Ducati 848 or jump into the Superbike class with the Ducati 1098R homologation special. According to Team Manager Brian Sharp, the team is specifically waiting to see if the Ducati 1098R will be allowed to use racing kit pistons in 2008. If the pistons are allowed, the private team will enter the Superbike class for 2008. If the pistons are not allowed, the team will return to the Formula Xtreme class with the all-new Ducati 848. Sharp said Ducati North America has been working with the AMA Pro Racing Technical Department to get the racing kit pistons approved and that he has received verbal confirmation that the racing kit pistons will be allowed for the 1098R in 2008. But Sharp said that his team owner wants to see something in writing before the team moves forward with a Superbike program. No matter which class it runs, Superbike or Formula Xtreme, Boulder Motor Sports’ rider will continue to be former Australian Superbike Champion and AMA Formula Xtreme race winner Marty Craggill. Craggill put his 848cc Ducati 749R on the AMA Formula Xtreme podium twice in 2007, and in spite of a very late start to the season, finished eighth in the Championship.
