Results Round 7 of Spanish 1000cc FX Championship From Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, Sunday, November 25, 2007 Noyes Fourth at Jerez in Final Round of Spanish Championship American Kenny Noyes, starting off the second row on his Motorrad GSX-R 1000 Suzuki, got the holeshot and went into the lead on a drying track at Jerez de la Frontera in the final round of the Spanish 1000cc Formula Extreme Championship. The former Formula USA Pro Singles dirt-track champion held off the top three riders in the series, four-times National champion Jose David de Gea (Blusens BQR Suzuki) and Loreal Yamaha team mates Carmelo Morales and Javier del Amor for the first five laps of the nationally televised race. By lap four Noyes had pulled nearly a one second gap over De Gea and Morales until the American’s Suzuki stepped out and ran wide when he hit a puddle on lap six, dropping him to third and then fourth. “It took a couple of laps to get my confidence back after that. We were all on slicks but the track was still damp,” said Noyes. Noyes lost contact with De Gea in third and found himself battling Julian Mazuecos (Atletico de Madrid Kawasaki) and Belgian wildcard and former European Superstock champion Xavier Simeon (Alstare Suzuki) for fourth. “That big slide cost me a lot of time, but I settled down and concentrated on getting at least two places back. I saw a couple of places where I figured I could pass Mazuecos and Simeon on the last lap and decided to leave it till then so they wouldn’t have a chance to get me back. I picked them both off in one go at the Dry Sack hairpin the last time around. It was a little sketchy out there because the track was cold with a few damp spots right to the end. This is my best result in this class so far and the new Dunlop I had for this last race was so good I did my fastest lap on the last lap!” Morales won a last-lap battle with del Amor for the win and de Gea, who leaves the Spanish Championship for World Supersport next year, took third and distinguished himself by being the only rider in the FX class to finish on the podium in every race. Noyes’s Motorrad Suzuki team mate, Sergio Fuertes, crashed in practice on Friday and was unable to ride due to a dislocated shoulder, but still managed to finish fifth in the series. Noyes began the season with a separated shoulder due to a dirt track training crash and then broke ribs at Albacete at midseason, but came on well at the end of the year with four eighths and then a fourth in his last five rides. The results Fuertes and Noyes marks the first time that the Madrid-based Suzuki team has placed both riders in the top ten in the final points standings. Team owner Manuel Alonso said, “Sergio’s crash prevented him from taking fourth in the series, especially after his third place last week in Valencia. Kenny has been riding hurt most of the season, but today he showed his true potential. He only missed finishing sixth in the championship by three points, but the important thing is that he ended the season strong and is ready to make that next step to fight at the front in 2008.” Results Spanish 1000cc Formula Extreme 1. The young American, who, like Noyes in FX, began his racing as a Lodi Cycle Bowl dirt tracker, dropped down as far as eighth in the early going but came charging back to fifth and was battling for fourth when he crashed out on the final lap. The 125 race was won by Englishman Scott Redding (Blusens BQR Aprilia) from his team mate, German Stefan Bradl (son of former GP 250 star Helmut Bradl) with Frenchman Alexis Masbou third. Bradl’s second place was enough to take the Spanish title by eight points. Results Spanish 125 Race 1.Scott Redding Blusens BRQ Aprilia 29:28.193 2. Stefan Bradl Blusens BQR Aprilia 29:32.484 3. Third man in the battle for the title, former 125 regular Angel Rodriguez, was fourth and slipped to third in the final points table. Motorrad Suzuki’s David Bonache started well, but dropped back to seventh due to a mistaken tire choice. He did, nevertheless, finish a solid eighth in the championship. European Suzuki GSX-R 750 Cup runner-up, Ismael Ortega, riding for Motorrad Suzuki in the final two races of the season, was eighth.
