S-Works LLC announces new road racing shop in Allentown, Pennsylvania S-Works, LLC., has opened up a shop in Allentown, Pennsylvania, specializing in road race bikes and competition hardware. S-Works will offer race and track day prepped bikes as requested, built to customer’s specs from new, as well as transformation of customer’s bikes. Offering full in-house capabilities makes it a one-stop shop. Joe Capelli, seasoned racer and fabricator, brings his wizardry to the operation. The first project bike done was a 2007 GSX-R1000, prepped to Superstock specs. S-Works is also working on a Ducati 1098S Tri-Colore based race/ trackday bike as a showcase of their work and the quality of paint and graphics, which are also do in house. Owner Bob Robbins, a long-time club racer, is looking for a specific clientele that wants to ride and let someone else worry about the rest. Inspired partly by the late Steve Weiss of DKNY, Robbins remembered in the early days before Weiss’s association with FBF, his commenting about how someone could really do well catering to guys like me who just want to show up and ride. “It is common in the race car world, and the difference is simply two less wheels. The passion for racebikes is no less than race cars, and they cost way less. There are people who just don’t have the time or the resources to go from setting up a bike with the right components to maintaining it and repairing it from crash damage, etc. I’ve seen plenty of people tooling around on very costly bikes on track days that would be happy to have a source to set up and take care of the bike properly.” Robbins hopes the experience of running a team in the 2008 AMA season can lean him towards offering a simply put ” Pay and ride” program for racers who can afford it, but admits that is a little out there right now. With S-Works’ in-house capabilities of dyno tuning, CNC design and machine work, chassis prepping, paint and graphics, and basic creativity, the recipe is there for a well-sorted, reliable bike that would be at home in any paddock. For those skeptical of the concept, Robbins says “Think of some of the garage jewelry choppers like you see around town. People are willing to buy a custom chopper that may be created from catalogue parts and bolted together into a dangerous contraption that flexes and wobbles and doesn’t do anything well, but command ridiculous prices. Wouldn’t it be cool to see a GP or SBK inspired bike peppered with trick bits and a number on it instead?” S-Works will be taking their own Desmosedici RR upon its arrival and begin developing a list of replacement components for those who plan to ride the bikes. The company plans to open a website soon and be in full swing by the first of the year, but is focusing on preparing for the AMA 2008 season With Shane Narbonne as its first priority.
