Simone SANNA (Honda CBR600RR), 1:41.669 More, from a press release issued by HANNspree Ten Kate Honda: Charpentier tops the timesheets at Vallelunga The penultimate round of the 2007 World Supersport Championship started well for HANNspree Ten Kate Honda with Sébastien Charpentier in provisional pole position. Team-mate and 2007 World Supersport Champion Kenan Sofuoglu qualified as the third fastest rider. Unpredictable weather conditions meant that both riders opted out of the majority of the morning free practice, only joining the session in the final half. The track dried out during the afternoon as Charpentier and Sofuoglu took to the 4.110km circuit for the 45-minute official qualifying. Sofuoglu set a fastest lap early on and repeated the feat a further three times before the end of the session. He finished with a best time of 1’40.408. However, it was Charpentier who secured the premier spot on the timesheet with an impressive lap of 1.39.733. The Frenchman was the only rider to secure a 1.39 lap and goes into tomorrow’s second day qualifying as the potential pole sitter. Ronald ten Kate, Team Manager: “It’s been a good day for us but we still have quite a lot of work to do. Missing out on the session this morning meant we had a lot to do this afternoon. We are still playing around with the bike and we’ll be making quite a few changes overnight. I’m happy that we have already achieved the same lap times as we did in the test here. Tomorrow we can concentrate on race set-up and further development of the CBR600RR for 2008.” Sébastien Charpentier: “Today was ok – I am in first position. The track was not completely dry this morning so it was difficult. The first bike didn’t work so well for my style so I changed to my second bike and this was much better. On the first outing it felt stable and I like the set-up. We will work very hard tomorrow to prepare for the race and I just hope it is better weather.” Kenan Sofuoglu: “It was not bad today. We are trying something new on the bike, but it was difficult because of the rain this morning. That meant we had some catching up to do this afternoon, but I am confident that we can improve the times tomorrow. I am aiming for the front row and pole and I am hungry to win the race.”
