Pirelli rider Zac Chapman rode his Suzuki GSX-R600 and GSX-R750 to the top of the Horizon Award points at the 2007 AMA Road Racing Grand Championships, showing how privateers win on the same Pirelli tires used by professional racers. At the Grand Championship, taking place at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, September 22-23, the Texan Chapman used Pirelli Supercorsa DOT racing tires to best the field, becoming the sixth Pirelli rider in a row to win the Horizon Award (2002 Chris “Opie” Caylor, 2003 Brian Stokes, 2004 Logan Young, 2005 Blake Young, 2006 Corey Burleson). The seasoned CMRA racer, Chapman, won the Horizon Award by winning the 750 Superbike and 600 Superbike races, and the Pro-Am 600 Supersport race, and by showing the promise of his talents in every class he raced. “Having Zac win the 2007 Horizon Award on Pirelli tires is almost as exciting for us as our domination and podium sweep of the Daytona 200 this year. It shows our commitment to every racer from the club level to the top professionals. And our setting the fastest race laps in Supersport and Formula Xtreme at the AMA final at Laguna Seca shows that we are ready for even bigger things next year,” said Christoph Knoche, Pirelli’s North American Racing Channel Manager.
