WERA National Series at Nelson Ledges this Weekend GARRETTSVILLE, Oh. The WERA National Series is Ohio-bound for this weekend’s round at Nelson Ledges Road Course. With only three rounds remaining this season, all of the championship contenders will be looking for top finishes to bolster their points standings. In the WERA/Bridgestone National Endurance Series, Vesrah Suzuki has little to worry about after one of their most impressive seasons to date. With all but one overall win to their credit, the team has been a dominant force. Nelson Ledges is a place the Vesrah riders know well they won by seven laps last year. When it comes to points, the Mediumweight Superbike class is the closest with just 6.08 points separating leader bp Concepts from Velocity Crew Racing. Mediumweight Superstock is also close: Team Westby has just 15.35 points over Dalke Motorsports. With over 100 points available in any given race, one round can make a big difference. This year’s six-hour race begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 9. The last endurance race at Nelson Ledges, an eight-hour, was completed without any red flags, and WERA hopes for another day of uninterrupted racing. The championships are heating up in the WERA/Michelin National Challenge Series, too. The Open Superstock expert class is led by Tray Batey, who is just 13 points ahead of Robert Jensen. It is Jensen who has the edge in 750 Superstock with his own 13-point lead over John Jacobi. Opie Caylor is only one point behind Jacobi, but he has to worry about Lee Acree, who sits another four points behind. Taylor Knapp won three of the expert races at last year’s Nelson Ledges round, but now that the young rider is concentrating on AMA Pro Racing competition, there are a number of riders who could rise to the occasion. The WERA/Michelin National Challenge Series races will each be 10 laps long, and they begin with Open Superstock at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. More information about WERA, including updated points for each class, can be found online at www.WERA.com.
