DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. The sound of stock cars at Daytona International Speedway, have been replaced for the time being by the sound of bulldozers, pavers and graders. “The World Center of Racing,” which undertook a major infield renovation project in 2004, is currently experience yet another tweak in its infield, with several alterations underway. Those projects include: – Remove all above ground obstructions and ditches from the interior grassed sections of the road course (overhead power, drainage structure headwalls, fencing). – Regrade the interior grassed section of the road course, install drainage structures and grates. – Construct a 12′ wide extension of pit road to extend pit road out to the east horseshoe where it blends into the main track. – Construct a new inner East Horseshoe which will match the existing radius and slope of the existing turn. – Strip the grass and topsoil between road course in and out and pave the area. “We’re always soliciting input from our competitors to find out how we can make our venue better for them,” said Daytona International Speedway President. “These changes are a result of those conversations. We look forward to having these alterations make the events here at DIS even more exciting.” To see any of the events scheduled on Daytona International Speedway’s recent road projects, including tickets for the 50th running of the Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, visit www.Daytona500.com or call 1-800-PITSHOP.
