Governor Huntsman to Headline Celebrity Race at Miller Motorsports Park TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (June 15, 2007) — A host of celebrities will be at Miller Motorsports Park during the upcoming AMA Honda Summit of Speed weekend to compete in the “Magic of Miller” Celebrity Race, including Utah’s own Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. As a veteran motocross rider and motorsports enthusiast, Governor Huntsman and his family make frequent visits to Miller Motorsports Park to take a break from his busy life. A seventh-generation Utahn, Governor Huntsman served as a White House Staff Assistant in the Reagan administration, U.S. Ambassador to Singapore in the President George H. W. Bush administration and trade minister to East Asia in the George W. Bush administration before becoming the 16th governor of Utah. Other celebrities competing in the race will be Dave Hunter; Kurt Hale; Gregg Godfrey; Erin Bates, Curt Doussett, Ron Duncombe, Roland Steadham, Danny Allen and Col. Jeff Burton of the Army National Guard. Dave Hunter worked for 10 years in real estate and development. In 2001, along with longtime friend Kurt Hale, with whom he studied film at Brigham Young University (BYU), Hunter founded Halestorm Entertainment to produce and distribute comedic feature films primarily for the LDS audience. He currently helms the financial and business end of the company, serving as producer for all Halestorm productions. Kurt Hale graduated from the film school at BYU and comes from a family of playwright legends. He is currently the President and Creative Director of Halestorm Entertainment which specializes in the development, production and distribution of feature films, children’s television programming and family-friendly entertainment. Gregg Godfrey is a director, producer and executive producer in the motocross world. His recent productions include “Supercross Exposed,” “Global Addiction” and “Travis and the Nitro Circus.” Godfrey has worked with many motocross celebrities, including Travis Pastrana, Carey Hart and Jeremy McGrath. Erin Bates began her career in motorsports in 2000 as a trophy girl on the IMFA tour. From there she moved on to try announcing and began traveling all over the United States co-hosting the FMX tour. She is the former Miss FMX and currently works for SPEED Channel, covering the AMA Supermoto series as their pit reporter. Along with his wife Tonia, Curt Doussett runs ComedySportz Utah, which is an improv troupe. ComedySportz currently boasts the largest cast among Utah improv troupes. Doussett is also the host of a new show on the Discovery Channel called “Hazard Pay.” On the show he travels the globe performing some of the world’s most dangerous jobs. With experience as a stock car driver and as a BMX and motocross racer, and over 20 years of love for the outdoors, Ron Duncombe is a West Jordan native who serves as the official Maverik Monster Tracker, driving the 1550hp Maverik-sponsored Monster Truck, the Maverik Monster Trakker. Roland Steadham is the Chief Meteorologist for KUTV-2 in Salt Lake City. He started his television career at KUTV in 1981 while attending BYU and the University of Utah, and later worked in San Diego and Miami. He returned to KUTV in 2005 after 23 years, and has been awarded both the AMS (American Meteorological Society) and the NWA (National Weather Association) Seals of Approval. Danny Allen is the co-host of the popular new show on KJZZ, “B. All Over.” Prior to joining KJZZ, Allen hosted an ESPN series called “United Rock Crawling & Off-Road Challenge Series” and has acted in a number of LDS-oriented films. A native of Canada, Allen raced snowmobiles as a young man and raced in the first round of this year’s “Magic of Miller” Celebrity Races. Colonel Jefferson S. Burton has been selected to be the next Brigadier General for the Utah Army National Guard. Col. Burton completed resident War College in June of 2006 and was the Commander of the 1457th Engineers in Bagdad, Iraq from March, 2003 through May, 2004. Col. Burton is a recipient of the Bronze Star and has numerous citations and awards. This war hero is one of many family members serving in the military, including his father, brother, son and nephew. All of the race participants are required to attend a two-day racing school at the Ford Racing School of High Performance Driving at Miller Motorsports Park. In the race, they will be driving race-prepared 350hp Mustang Challenge cars built by the Miller Motorsports Park staff. The Mustang Challenge is a highly modified Ford Mustang GT that has been lightened by 330 lb and fully prepared for racing with intake, exhaust, suspension, braking, steering, aerodynamic, data acquisition and safety modifications, taking liberal advantage of the Ford Racing parts catalogue, and comes exclusively with BFGoodrich g-Force R1 DOT race tires. Although he has extensive two-wheeled experience, this will be the first time that Governor Huntsman has raced in an automobile. “I’m excited for this awesome opportunity to race on one of the world’s premier motorsports tracks. Utah, now like never before, has expanded its role as the state of sports into professional racing for both automobiles and motorcycles,” Governor Huntsman said. “I’m looking forward to racing on four wheels instead of two.” The seven-lap “Magic of Miller” Celebrity Race will be held at noon on Saturday, June 23. This will be the second of five such races to be held this season. The Honda Summit of Speed weekend will feature the AMA Superbike Championship presented by Parts Unlimited, which will run 21-lap races on both Saturday and Sunday, and the Plaza Cycle AMA Supermoto Challenge, which will race on the Miller Motorsports Park Supermoto Course on Saturday. Support events, in addition to the “Magic of Miller” Celebrity Race, include 13-lap races for the AMA Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship presented by Shoei Helmets, the AMA Lockhart Phillips Formula Xtreme Series presented by Help Me Ride, the AMA Superstock Series presented by Dynojet and the USGPRU 125 Grand Prix National Championship. Ticketing gates will be open from 8am to 5pm, Friday through Sunday. Trackside admission tickets are priced at $20 for Friday, $35 for Saturday and Sunday and $60 for a three-day weekend ticket. Grandstand tickets are $20 for Friday, $50-$55 for Saturday and Sunday and $80-90 for a three-day weekend ticket. Tickets are available at the Miller Motorsports Park Welcome Center and online at www.ticketmaster.com. Tooele County residents get a 10-percent discount and children 12 and under are always free in trackside admission areas when accompanied by an adult.
