SunTrust MOTO-ST Series Competitors Geared up and Looking for Action at Road America DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — After a two-month hiatus, SunTrust MOTO-ST Series’ competitors are geared up and looking for action as they make ready to head to Road America’s historic 4-mile road course, July 7-8, for Round 4 of this year’s newest and most exciting professional series. Boasting non-stop two-wheeled team racing complete with pit stops, the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series showcases three classes; The Buell Motorcycle Company SuperSport Twins class (SST) showcasing machines with up to 118 horsepower, the BMW Grand Sport Twins class (GST) for those producing 75-90 horsepower and Sport Twins (ST) for machines under 75 horsepower. A win in motorcycle endurance racing is far tougher than a win in automobile racing. Unprotected by roll bars, yet swapping paint and banging handlebars, these incredible two-wheeled athletes exhibit a unique blend of determination, consistency, smoothness and courage as they vie for glory in one of the most competitive series in the world. With three races complete, points are close and every team is more determined than ever to take the top spot. In the SST class, the Aprilia USA team of Ty Howard and Troy Green, on an Aprilia Tuono 1000R, leads the field with 99 points. Sitting in second place just 15 points behind is the San Jose BMW team of Brian Parriott and Nate Kern aboard a BMW R1200. Also tied for second is the Vallely Racing team of Mike Himmelsbach and Tom Vallely piloting a Suzuki SV1000S. Holding down fourth place, 25 points out of the lead is TeamRightsForBikers.com with Mark Crozier and Nathan Dressman also running a Suzuki SV1000S and rounding out the top five is the second Vallely Racing Suzuki SV1000S of Frank Trombino and Tom Vallely. In the GST Class it is the Ritchie Morris Racing Buell XB12 out in front with 100 points. Headquartered in Elkhart Lake, Wis., and piloted by Shawn Higbee of Oconomowoc, Wis., and Dan Bilansky of New Berlin, Wis., this team has taken two wins and a third in the first three events. Just four points back is Touring Sport Ducati. Ridden by Peter Friedland, Brad Phillips and Frank Shockley, this team has put their Ducati Supersport 1000DS in second place in all three races. Rounding out the top three is James Gang Racing from Waukesha, Wis. Sitting 16 points out of the lead, riders Paul James and Greg Avello are ready to put their Buell XB1200 out in front. Headlining the ST Class is the Pair-A-Nines team showcasing the well-know talent of Jim Filice and Jay Springsteen on a Kawasaki EX650. Running second is Go Big Racing from Canada with Ross Millson and Paul Glenn on a Suzuki SV650 and third is Edge Racing out of Illinois with Tim Luporini, Chris Mayerle and Don Rankin. Featuring riders from the United States, Canada and Europe, the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series is not just about the rider and machine. It is truly a team sport with the entire crew playing an all-important part.
