Record Breaking Riding Into History at The World Golf Village The 8th Annual Riding Into History wrote itself into the history books with a record breaking performance. With well over 300 motorcycles entered into the Concours d’Elegance, 3500 spectators and 20 dealers and exhibitors, Riding Into History confirmed its place as one of the nation’s premier motorcycle shows. Patrons at the Concours were treated to an outstanding display of antique, vintage, classic and custom motorcycles from all over the country. There was even a large collection of antique bicycles on display, dating back over 140 years. Enthusiasts from Canada, Scotland, England, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia joined their American colleges in viewing the assembled collection and discussing the merits of the various two wheelers. While the “Sexy Motorcycles of Italy” were featured this year, manufacturers from all over the world were represented. The judges had a very difficult time selecting winners from the sea of beautiful bikes displayed around the lake at The World Golf Village near St. Augustine, but in the end they made excellent choices. Major awards went to: Troyce Walls Preservation Award for his original 1954 Honda Dream Pat Mooney Chairman’s Award for his 1978 MV Agusta Magni 862 prototype Jack Wells Best Italian Award for his 1948 Moto Guzzi 250 Airone Sport Marty Megregian Best In Show for his 1931 Henderson KL with sidecar Two charity rides, one to St. Augustine featuring historic bikes from the Concours, were also supported by record numbers of riders. The Biker’s Ball featured an address by former World Champion motorcycle racer Kel Carruthers of Australia who was this year’s Grand Marshal, and a spectacular Silent Auction which included a stunning Ducati Multistrada, donated by Miller BMW of Tallahassee. The Riding Into History Committee which presents the event consists of volunteers from the Atlantic Beach Vintage Motorcycle Club and BMW Motorcycle Owners of Northeast Florida. Volunteers from the American Antique Motorcycle Club, the Historic Motorcycle Society and the Chrome Divas also contributed their time and talents. All proceeds from Riding Into History benefit the Buddy Check 12 breast cancer charity which serves over 500,000 women. The charity was founded in Jacksonville by Jeannie Blaylock, a First Coast News anchor. Today Buddy Check 12 is international, and it is a partnership between Baptist Health and First Coast News. This year’s contribution is estimated to be in excess of $30,000. Key contributors to the success of this year’s Riding Into History included Chairman Bill Peterson, poster artist Don Bradley, and sponsors Sargent Cycle Products, Jacksonville PowerSports and Miller BMW.
