Garrett Carter crashed and his Yamaha YZF-R6 burst into raging flames after sliding into haybales and Airfence outside Turn 10 at Infineon Raceway this morning, causing a red flag with 20 minutes left on the clock. Carter landed to the right of the flames and did not seem to be involved. Two cornerworkers emptied fire extinguishers into the flames as they spread and engulfed haybales, to no visible effect. The flames grew in intensity and spread for several minutes before two track fire trucks arrived on the scene; crews put out the fire, using multiple extinguishers. Carter was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Track workers moved 32 feet of Airfence Bike from the top of Turn 10 to the bottom of Turn 10 (site of the crash) after clearing away the burned haybales.
