Junge, McBain, Caylor Lead WERA/AMA National Challenge Qualifying at Barber

Mark Junge, Clint McBain, and Opie Caylor led WERA/AMA National Challenge Qualifying at Barber Motorsports Park on Friday. Vesrah Suzuki’s Junge nipped Butler Machinery’s Robert Jensen for the pole in the 600cc Superstock Class. Keith Marshall was third followed by young gun Josh Day with Lee Acree fifth. Canadian Clint McBain took pole position over Vesrah Suzuki’s Tray Batey in the Formula 1 class. Junge will start third while Acree fills out the front row on his GSX-R750. Opie Caylor rounded out the top five on his GSX-R750. Pole position in the 750cc Superstock went to Caylor with Acree second. GSX-R600-mounted Chad Lewin starts from third with Marshall fourth on another GSX-R600. Robert Jensen rounded out the top five. Open Superstock Expert qualifying was cancelled after an afternoon rainstorm moved in a few minutes into the session. Only three riders had recorded qualifying times when the red flag came out. John Jacobi (Suz GSX-R750), 1:31.764 AMA Pro Road Racing Manager Morgan Broadhead qualified 18th out of 48 entrants in 600cc Superstock. Broadhead’s qualifying time was 1:34.617. To qualify for the AMA National Supersport race held at Barber last month, Broadhead would have had to have gone about one second quicker per lap.
