Colombian Santiago Villa remains hospitalized in Arrowhead Regional Medical Center recovering from injuries suffered during Superstock qualifying on Saturday at California Speedway. Villa landed on low-profile plastic curbing used to create an artificial chicane at the transition between the last turn of the infield road course and the straightaway of the oval track, breaking eight ribs and puncturing a lung. “That course seems really dangerous,” said Villa in a phone call to Roadracing World. “It seems very strange to race an AMA National there. If you crash at some place like Barber you have a chance, but here I crashed and I almost died because of some strange things.” Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, a Level II Trauma Center, is located at 400 North Pepper Ave., Colton, CA 92324-1819.
