AMA to drivers: Focus on seeing motorcyclists PICKERINGTON, Ohio – May is Motorcycle Awareness Month, and the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is encouraging all drivers and riders to recommit to safe driving practices by avoiding distractions and staying focused on other highway users. The centerpiece of the campaign is a television Public Service Announcement (PSA) being distributed nationally. “We’ve all seen distracted drivers on the highway,” said Rob Dingman, President and CEO of the AMA. “The preoccupied cell phone talker straddling lanes on the freeway, the business person fumbling with a pocket computer while turning left, or the hair brusher watching the image in the mirror instead of the stopped traffic ahead. “Distracted drivers are a danger to everyone, particularly vulnerable road users like motorcyclists, bicyclists and pedestrians,” he added. “And you never know who might be riding that motorcycle you encounter.” The PSA features an impatient and distracted driver who has a near-miss with a motorcyclist and then gets an unexpected surprise.
