Gibbs (Suz GSX-R600), 1:39.716 More, from a press release issued by Pirelli: Pirelli Rider’s Barnes and Attard on FX Front Row at Cal Speedway Rome, Georgia: Inside the Inland Empire, at California Speedway, Fontana, California, Pirelli riders crowded the top-ten times in the AMA Superbike Series, from Formula Xtreme to Superstock to Supersport. In Friday’s Supersport and Superstock practice, four of the top-ten riders were on Pirelli’s Diablo race rubber, with M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Geoff May being the fastest of them in both groups. In Supersport, May rode his GSX-R600 to third fastest, with teammate Michael Barnes on the very same second at fifth fastest, each using Pirelli’s Diablo Supercorsa DOT race tires. Attack Kawasaki teammates, those two riders finishing first and second in the 2007 Daytona 200 on a pair of Kawasaki ZX-6Rs, were in switched order today on their Supersport bikes, with Ben Attard ninth and Steve Rapp tenth fastest. During practice for the big bikes of Superstock, Geoff May was fourth fastest on his GSX-R1000, with Team Roadracingworld.com Suzuki team-owner, moto-journalist, Chris Ulrich setting the fifth-fastest time. Ulrich’s teammate, Robertino Pietri, the 2006 Latin American and Venezuelan Superbike champion, was eighth fastest, with Pirelli’s newest rider, Martin Cardenas setting the tenth fastest time, each of these riders making the most of the illimitable Pirelli Superbike Slicks. In Friday’s Formula Xtreme practice, Attack Kawasaki’s Steve Rapp was second fastest on his Pirelli-shod Kawasaki ZX-6R, with M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Michael Barnes at fourth fastest, on his Suzuki GSX-R600. In final qualifying for Saturday’s FX final, Barnes moved up to third fastest and Ben Attard rode his Attack Kawasaki ZX-6R to fourth fastest, each earning a front-row starting position. Attard’s teammate, Steve Rapp, was fifth fastest, and less than a second from pole-winner Joshua Hayes. The Pirelli rider rounding out the top ten is Cory West on his Chuck Giacchetto-tuned Yamaha YZF-R6, and like the other Pirelli riders, on a set of Diablo Supercorsa DOT racing tires. More, from a press release issued by Team M4 EMGO Suzuki: FRONT ROW START FOR MICHAEL BARNES AND M4 EMGO SUZUKI Team M4 EMGO Suzuki is back in action this weekend at California Speedway and anxious to put last weekend’s disappointing round at Barber Motorsports Park behind them. Friday provided a promising start towards that end, as the squad took a front row qualifying position and registered multiple top-five practice showings. Michael Barnes will open Saturday’s 17-lap Formula Xtreme race from near the head of the pack as the experienced Floridian qualified his Pirelli-shod GSX-R600 in the third position. His fast lap around the oval-and-infield circuit was an impressive 1:26.766. Teammate Geoff May showed incredible resiliency and toughness to rank among the fastest riders in both the Supersport and Superstock practice sessions despite being only five days removed from his terrifying high-speed Supersport crash in Alabama. May ignored the soreness in his body to post the third best time in Supersport at 1:27.338 and the fourth best in Superstock at 1:25.748. “The 600 session went really well,” May commented. “We showed up yesterday and the bike was fast right out of the trailer. We really haven’t changed anything from Barber and we’re just fast. It’s hard to explain. When you’re fast it’s easy, and when you’re struggling you’re slow. I’m not quite where I want to be on the 1000. It’s hurting me a little more to ride. It’s a lot more physical here and a lot heavier to transition through the corners.” “I’m having a hard time with it,” May admitted. “I’m finding I’m hurt more than I thought I was. When I got on the bike I didn’t think it was going to be so bad and I then all these little things cropped up on me. I’m just trying to take a positive attitude towards it and put my head down and try to look for a little bit of payback for last weekend.” Barnes and the fast rising Michael Beck were also strong in the Supersport free practice. Barnes backed up his third-place qualifying effort in FX with a fifth-place performance in the other 600cc-based class with a lap of 1:27.656, while Beck was 14th at 1:28.598. On Saturday, Team M4 EMGO Suzuki will qualify for Sunday’s Supersport and Superstock finals and Barnes will conclude the day by seeking a podium finish in the 60k Formula Xtreme final.
