Dane Westby demonstrated his skill on high speed tracks by taking five expert-class wins on the high-banked course at Texas World Speedway when the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Series visited College Station, Texas for round three of its 10-round championship schedule. Westby rode a combination of Suzuki and Yamaha machinery, his SV650 and a YZF-R6, to wins in the Formula 2, Lightweight Twins, C Superstock, D Superbike and D Superstock Expert races. Defending CMRA champion Ty Howard survived mechanical problems on Sunday, not to mention an overnight trip from Miami, Florida where he competed on Saturday in a MOTO-ST race, to claim three expert wins. The Suzuki-mounted Howard took wins in the Liberty Motorsport Park-sponsored B Superstock Expert race, the Island Racing Services C Superbike Expert race and the RaceworX A Superstock Expert race. Meanwhile, Bryan West took the win in the marquee event of the day, the Northwest Honda Formula 1 race. West moved his GSX-R1000 around similarly-mounted Randall Kienast to claim the win, while Howard, who had his GSX-R750 die on him at the start of the race, worked his way up from the middle of the pack to finish third. Kentucky’s Hayden Gillim also had a good weekend, claiming the winner’s share of the $150 purse paid by GMAN Productions after topping the GMAN Productions 125 GP race. Gillim also took wins in the Clubman class and the Ridesmart Formula 4 mini race. Dustin Meador won two expert races, topping both Space City Laser Tag-sponsored events, the Super Motard and Unlimited Motard races. Other Expert-class winners included Dustin Dominguez (B Superbike), Marv Esterly (Formula 40 Heavyweight), Eric Falt (Formula 40 Lightweight), Andy Galindo (Heavyweight Twins), and Randall Kienast (Avteq A Superbike). In the Novice ranks, Steve Hendricks claimed three wins, including the WINN Racing Formula 1 Novice race, while Dustin Doucet and Jake Lewis each had two wins. On Saturday, the Shogun Motorsports 8 Hour Endurance race went down to the final few laps, as three different teams jockeyed for position to see who would win the second round of the series. During the final hour, GMAN Racing, Lone Star Track Days and Village Idiots were all in contention to take the top position, however, when the checkered flag fell it was the “Idiots” who held the lead, despite coasting to a stop on the back side of the track with an empty fuel tank. Lone Star Track Days finished second overall, some 49 seconds behind, while GMAN Racing, who had held the lead from the third hour to the fifth hour, finished third, another three seconds back. The second place finish gave Lone Star Track Days the class win in the C Superbike division, while GMAN Racing topped the Formula 1 class with their third overall finish. Team RPS Repsol won the A Superstock class with a fifth overall finish and Faltless Racing won the Formula 2 division in seventh overall. The CMRA schedule now moves to Hallett Motor Racing Circuit, near Hallett, Oklahoma, on May 18-20, for a full slate of sprint racing, plus a 5 hour Big Bike Endurance round and a 2 hour Mini Endurance race.
