Weather: Damp Final qualifying, Saturday 14th April SECOND ROW FOR XAVI Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider Xavi Simeon posted the fifth fastest time in final qualifying for the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup race at Valencia tomorrow. Xavi’s second row grid place is a huge improvement from Donington two weeks ago and now gives the young Belgian a realistic chance of a good result in tomorrow’s 13-lap race. Italian Michele Pirro (Yamaha) took pole position today, with a lap of 1:55.969, over half a second ahead of his nearest rival, Belgian Wym van den Broeck, with another Belgian, Didier van Keymeulen (Yamaha) third. XAVI – 5th, 1:56.719 I didn’t push so hard this afternoon because I didn’t want to crash, so I am happy to end fifth fastest. This is so much better then Donington and it means I can run with the leaders right from the start of the race, instead of playing catch-up. Also, I am not so far behind pole position in time and that gives me a lot of hope for the race tomorrow. The track here is very slippery in the wet and it’s vital to keep up your concentration level or you could crash. I’m not sure what the weather will do tomorrow, but I think I can make a good result. Final qualifying 1 Pirro (I-Yamaha) 1:55.969, 2 Van den Broeck (B-Yamaha) 1:56.547, 3 Van Keymeulen (B-Yamaha) 1:56.598, 4 Smrz (CZ-Honda) 1:56.647, 5 XAVIER SIMEON (B-Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra) 1:56.719, 6 Badovini (I-MV) 1:56.752,
