Jay Springsteen turns 50 this weekend, and he’s spending his birthday weekend racing a Kawasaki Ninja 650R with teammate Jimmy Filice at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Springsteen said that he’s about 95% recovered from a massive dirt-track crash last year that left him with two rods and 12 screws installed in his broken back. The head of one of the screws–which Springsteen described as being a couple inches long with course threads–is visible beneath the skin on Springsteen’s back. Springsteen and Filice were fastest in their class during MOTO-ST practice Friday.
