Safety First Suzuki Racing Team Owner Kevin Hanson and Crew Chief Jim Rashid recently participated in Niles High School’s annual Career Day. The program for the suburban Chicago High School was called “Ask the Expert” which demonstrated to students the relationship of school subject areas to life skills and career opportunities in the workplace. Hanson and Rashid covered various administrative and mechanical responsibilities required to maintain and field an AMA race team, job duties of an AMA mechanic, preparation and education needed to be a mechanic, a technical discussion regarding AMA class rules and what Safety First Racing needs to do in preparing their Suzuki GSXR 600’s to go from showroom floor to the track. The team brought a Safety First Suzuki GSXR600 racebike as a visual aid for the presentation. “The students were really excited when they got to look at the racebike up close and hear it run. It was a great opportunity to promote AMA motorcycle racing and what it takes to pursue a career as a mechanic” quoted Kevin Hanson. Jim Rashid added “It was great to correlate how all areas of their schooling will help them strive towards their professional goals and see the reactions of the students. They had some great, thoughtful questions that really reflected their level of interest in our presentation”. Safety First Racing and Kevin Hanson have a long history of close relations with schools as Kevin Hanson has done numerous helmet safety presentations throughout the years to various school and youth groups.
