Riding Into History Gains Speed Motorcycle entries from all over the country are pouring in for the Riding Into History Concours d’Elegance. Organizers expect a record number of entries, far exceeding the 300 antique, vintage, custom and competition motorcycles in last year’s show. Riding Into History is one of America’s premier motorcycle events, and it will return to the World Golf Village near St. Augustine, Florida on May 19, 2007. The event will feature Charity Rides, the Concours d’Elegance, the Biker’s Ball and the Historic Ride. All of the proceeds from Riding Into History will benefit the Buddy Check 12 breast cancer charity, a partnership between Baptist Health and First Coast News. Entrants, patrons and media representatives from as far away as England and Scotland will be in attendance. Event Chairman Bill Peterson termed the interest in the show “overwhelmingly positive,” and noted that the turnout in spectators, exhibitors, dealers and clubs should easily set records as well. The Grand Marshal for this year’s event will be Kel Carruthers, former Grand Prix Road Race World Champion on a 250cc Benelli. He is also a two-time winner at the Isle of Man, Motorcycle Hall of Fame Member, and manager of the teams on which Kenny Roberts won three consecutive 500cc World Championships. Kel will be on hand at the Concours to talk with patrons and to sign the extremely popular event posters. Internationally know motorcycle artist Don Bradley will once again provide the original artwork for the posters, which have become collectors’ items. Posters, t-shirts and other items will be available at RidingIntoHistory.org and at the event. The event is presented by the Riding Into History Committee, which is comprised of volunteer members from the Atlantic Beach Vintage Motorcycle Club (ABVMC) and the BMW Motorcycle Owners of Northeast Florida (BMWNEF). This year the Concours will feature The Sexy Motorcycles of Italy. Admission is still only $10 at the gate for the Concours. Various packages are available for the Biker’s Ball and the Charity Rides, and they are posted on the website. The World Golf Village is located just north of St. Augustine on I-95, exit 323.
