CUDLIN READY FOR LE MANS After the conclusion of the second, and final WEC ‘pre Le Mans’ test of the season, Damian Cudlin has declared himself ready for the 24hour of Le Mans race. The young Aussie spent 2 more days getting used to the Yamaha Austria Racing Team (YART) R1 last week [April 4-5] in Le Mans, and after continual improvement and refinements, Cudlin believes he stands a good chance for the gruelling race ahead. “The test went really well, and I was happy that I felt comfy on the bike by the end of it.” said Cudlin. “The times came to me which was pleasing, although I think I’ve still got more to come at the race weekend. I kinda hit a wall in the 41 second bracket and couldn’t quiet get into the 40’s, but I’ve looked closely at the data and that of Igor’s and I’m sure I can go faster by race day.” Cudlin explained. “I’ve got to thank the YART squad for their help, and both Luca and Thomas from Pirelli for getting me confident with the tyres. I really think we have a very strong team with Igor and Sebastian by my side, so I can’t wait to get this racing season underway. It’s going to be big!” YART rider and Cudlin’s team mate Igor Jerman posted a 1.39.1 on a qualifier to be the fastest of the test, and ran a succession of 40’s on race tyres. 3rd YART rider Sebastian Scarnato didn’t participate in the test, opting to use the extra time off for his previously dislocated shoulder to heal in time for the race. “Igor was the strongest guy at the test, so it’s obviously good to have him in my garage with access to his secrets!” Cudlin joked. “He’s very experienced and good to work with, so I think I’ll learn a lot from him and Seb this year. Hopefully enough to become the fastest myself. That’s what I’m aiming for.” YART Manager Mandy Kainz was also present at the test, and saw first hand the strength of his new rider line up. “We are in a very good position right now, with Igor and Damo both proving they can go fast in race conditions. I’m also sure Seb will be fast, as he can rely on his huge experience of the Le Mans race. It’s going to be a tough race with many teams capable of winning this year, but I think we have a strong chance.” Kainz said. The Le Mans 24hour will begin on the 21st running through to the 22nd of April.
