PICKERINGTON, Ohio (February 18, 2007) AMA Racing has announced the signing of a multi-year agreement with WERA Motorcycle Roadracing. Under the terms of the agreement the Bridgestone WERA National Endurance Series and the Michelin WERA National Challenge Series will be co-sanctioned by the AMA and WERA beginning with the 2007 season. “This agreement formalizes an already strong relationship between the AMA and WERA that has developed over the past several seasons,” said AMA Road Race Director Keith Kizer. “This is the first step in developing a clear career path that a road racer can follow from his or her novice season all the way to the premier level of the AMA Superbike Championship.” WERA President Evelyn Clark commented on the new relationship: “We must have a united front in order to advance motorcycle road racing in this country and I am proud that WERA and AMA Racing are taking the lead on this.” The Bridgestone WERA National Endurance Series and the Michelin WERA National Challenge Series are run on consecutive days in a 10-event series held at various tracks across the United States. Established in 1976 the WERA National Endurance Series is America’s longest running and most prestigious endurance racing series. The WERA National Challenge Series has been the springboard for some of the biggest names in road racing including current AMA Supersport and Superstock Champion Jamie Hacking, AMA Formula Xtreme Champion Josh Hayes, reigning AMA Superbike champion Ben Spies and World Champion Nicky Hayden. WERA has assisted the AMA in producing the AMA Road Race Grand Championships (RRGC) since 2003. During that period the event has experienced solid growth and the relationship between the two companies has strengthened tremendously. WERA will continue its involvement with the RRGC. The addition of AMA sanctioning to the Bridgestone WERA National Endurance Series establishes the series as the official U.S. National Endurance Series.
