FIRST PERSON/OPINION Via e-mail: I just read the press release about Al. Happy birthday Al!!! It’s an overused phrase, but I was JUST talking about Al this week. I was saying how the best times of my life were when I was racing AMA and WERA with my buddy Paul and my little brother Brendan, and how after every Summit Point race, we’d talk about Al in his outfits, jumping up and down waving the start, then the finish flag. He was always seemed so excited for the racers, he honestly made us feel important and special. I was telling my wife for the 130th time how Al showed up in his black Dodge van, with a trailer made out of the rear of a Dodge van. His wife was adorable too, they were so cute together. We tried to figure out how he found caps, shirts, belts, pants, sox and shoes that were always the same bright pastel colors, lime green, light blue, red, pink… it takes a real man to wear pink! We finally figured he must buy everything in white, and his wife dyed everything the same color. In any event, we’ll never forget Al at the track. Even if he wore all grey, anyone who met Al would call him colorful. I’m in NJ, and if I could, I’d love to take him to dinner just to spend some time with him again. God bless you Al! Kevin J.
