Young Venezuelan racer Roberto “Robertino” Pietri, 20, came to the U.S. to run the 2006 AMA Superstock Championship and hoped to return home with one of his racebikes to compete for the Venezuelan National Championship starting this weekend near Caracas. Pietri ran the full 2006 AMA Superstock series on a Roadracingworld.com Suzuki GSX-R1000, finishing 15th in final series points, with a best race finish of seventh at Daytona. But with Pietri and mechanics James Lickwar and Scott Harwell heading to the airport to fly to Caracas tomorrow, Pietri’s GSX-R1000 is still being held by U.S.Customs in Miami; Customs officials say it won’t be released until Sunday, too late for the opening round of the series. Roadracingworld.com has asked a U.S. Customs spokesperson to explain what the problem is and is awaiting an answer.
