Danny Eslick will once again race a Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R600 in the AMA Supersport race this weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. “They have some new suspension to test this weekend, so they decided to give me another turn on the factory bike this weekend,” Danny Eslick told Roadracingworld.com Thursday in the paddock at Mid-Ohio. When Yoshimura Suzuki’s Ben Spies crashed and broke his right hand at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) in August, Spies’ team allowed him to abandon the Supersport class so he could focus on the Superbike Championship for the remainder of the 2006 season. This opened the door for Eslick (who normally races for the Matsushima Performance Suzuki team and is currently third in the Supersport point standings) to race Spies’ GSX-R600 in the Supersport race at Road Atlanta. Eslick finished fourth in that race, but he didn’t feel he raced the Yoshimura Suzuki to its full potential. “It takes some getting used to another crew and suspension,” said Eslick, referring to the Showa suspension on Spies’ bike versus the Ohlins on his own GSX-R600. “Hopefully, I can get a better result this time and maybe get on the podium this weekend.” Eslick will still race a Matsushima Performance Suzuki GSX-R600 in the AMA Formula Xtreme race at Mid-Ohio. As for his 2007 racing plans, Eslick said, “As far as I know, I’m going to be with Grant’s [Matsushima Performance Suzuki] team next year. So this will hopefully give us a better idea of where we’re at with the development of our GSX-R600.”
