50th Anniversary season includes World Championships, motorcycles and sports cars MONTEREY, Calif. The 50th Anniversary season at the world-renowned Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will include a World Championship motorcycling event, the two premier professional sports car series in the United States, and the 34th running of North America’s most prestigious historic automobile race in a schedule announced today by Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The green flag waves on the historic season with the U.S. Sports Car Invitational May 18-20, headlined by the large fields of Daytona Prototypes and GT cars of the Grand American Road Racing Association’s Rolex Sports Car Series. The Daytona Prototypes and GT cars will do battle in a 250-mile race (with a two-hour, 45-minute time limit) on Sunday, May 20. The Rolex Sports Car Series will be joined by the Grand-Am Cup for high-performance sports cars along with additional support races to be announced soon. The 2007 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix July 20-22 will host American Nicky Hayden in his quest to top the MotoGP World Championship superstars for the third consecutive year. Valentino Rossi, Colin Edwards and the rest of the MotoGP World Championship field will try to dethrone Hayden after two consecutive Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix victories. The third weekend of August remains the Monterey Historic Automobile weekend on the Monterey Peninsula highlighted by the Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races presented by Toyota August 17-19. The 34th running of the event brings Indy tradition back to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, celebrating Indy Roadsters and those who made the Indy 500 one of the most spectacular events in motorsports. The 50th Anniversary season at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca concludes with the world’s most exotic racing sports cars. The Monterey Sports Car Championships October 19-21 provides a dramatic conclusion to the 2007 American Le Mans season with a Saturday, October 20 afternoon-into-evening four-hour race featuring the high-tech, high-speed prototype and GT machines. Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca has also announced plans to host one additional event during the month of September. Details of the fifth event on the 50th Anniversary schedule will be announced at a later date. Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca was built in 1957 and has been operated since its inception by the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP). SCRAMP is a not-for-profit corporation that donates net proceeds from each race season to the volunteer organizations that help put on the events at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Last season alone, SCRAMP donated over $200,000 to local charities and civic organizations.
