The defending AMA Superstock Champion was able to overcome the adversity and finished in a strong seventh place. The day before, Yates picked up a second-row grid spot after posting a fastest qualifying lap time of 1:24.363. The Georgian admitted that he didn’t give 100 percent in qualifying because he’d banged up his shoulder in a get-off during practice the previous day and he knew he had a Superbike race later in the day. “I wasn’t pushing very hard,” he said. “My shoulder keeps getting a little better as the day goes on and it should be fine for the race tomorrow.” Although he’d hoped his shoulder would be better, that was not the case and riding the Superstock bike exacerbated the injury. “It was a tough race,” admitted Yates. “The Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 was fine and I tried for a few laps but my shoulder was bothering me and I just couldn’t run with it. I pushed as hard as I could but I just couldn’t gain any ground. I gave it all I had.” Aaron Yates, Team Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000, #1 7th Place AMA Repsol Lubricants Superstock 2nd Place Overall
