Racing 2 Save Lives Announces VIR Event for 2007 Alton, Va. (August 19) Officials of VIRginia International Raceway and Racing 2 Save Lives (R2SL) announced today that R2SL has added an East Coast appearance at VIR for the week of August 14-17, 2007 in conjunction with next year’s Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals, featuring the AMA Superbike Championship presented by Parts Unlimited. R2SL is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to supporting children’s charities by raising awareness, involvement, and capital within the motorcycle racing community through donations, corporate sponsorship and fund-raising events. All profits generated by R2SL are distributed among carefully selected organizations who have a significant impact on the lives of children-in-need, and their families. In June 2004, the inaugural R2SL event was a week-long motorcycle endurance race at Colorado’s 2nd Creek Raceway which covered 32,517 miles and generated over $70,000 in donations of money, product and services, with over 200 riders and dozens of volunteers. The following year the event moved to Pikes Peak International Raceway, saw a 100pct increase in donations. This year, R2SL held its third annual event at Miller Motorsports Park, located near Salt Lake City, Utah, with another significant increase in donations. Since its inception, R2SL has given more than $120,000 to charitable organizations devoted to children. The R2SL program is strongly supported by a variety of the world’s most renowned motorcycle racers, many of whom compete in the AMA Superbike Championship presented by Parts Unlimited. Eric Bostrom of Graves Yamaha has joined forces with R2SL and not only lends his name to the program but is an active campaigner to further the organization’s cause. The 2007 visit of R2SL to VIR will mark the organization’s first east coast venture. The event will comprise four days and will take place on VIR’s 1.65-mile South Course in the days leading up to the Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals. R2SL strives to provide the ultimate on-track experience for both experienced and novice riders. All participants will have three three-hour on-track sessions per day, and novices can take advantage of coaching from experienced racing instructors. Well-known racing personalities will also be on hand, both enjoying the track time and interacting with participants. “We had a phenomenal turn out this year at Miller with around 350 participants from 19 states, Canada and even one rider from England,” explained Stan Foxworthy, executive director of R2SL. “We had Eric and Ben Bostrom working with eight lucky winners of the One-on-One Track Time Auction; Freddie Spencer and Jason DiSalvo spent a day with us; Jessica Zalusky came out for the second time; Michael Czysz even came out to ride and mingle with the participants. Next year’s events look like they will grow exponentially!” The overwhelmingly positive response to its first three events prompted R2SL to seek out an east coast venue. “After the coverage on SPEED Channel from our event, we received quite a few calls and e-mails asking if we could put on an event back east,” commented Foxworthy. “Working with Cameron Gray of M1 Entertainment and the awesome team at VIR, we have put together a fantastic program at one of America’s most beautiful and challenging racetracks.” “It just makes sense to have Racing 2 Save Lives as a part of our event,” remarked Gray, whose M1 Entertainment promotes the Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals at VIR. “R2SL is doing great things for children in need and showing our sport in a very positive light for the general public.” VIR general manager Josh Lief welcomed the R2SL concept, saying, “R2SL is not only going to raise a lot of money for children who need help, it is going to transform the Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals into a week-long celebration of motorcycling. We at VIR think R2SL is the perfect complement to what is already a fantastic event, we welcome R2SL to the VIR family and look forward to a long and productive relationship.” “I was so impressed with the RS2L program that I felt compelled to get involved personally,” said Eric Bostrom. “Bringing the event to VIR next year will give fans a chance to ride at another great facility and double our ability to raise funds to help kids in need, and that’s a win-win for everybody.” For the VIR R2SL event, M1 Entertainment will make available a specially priced three-day AMA race ticket package with parking to all R2SL participants wishing to stay through the weekend. “We are looking forward to next year’s events at both Miller Motorsports Park and VIR, and online registration for both events will open in February, 2007,” added Foxworthy. VIRginia International Raceway is a multi-purpose road racing facility, located on the Dan River between Danville and South Boston, Va., just north of historic Milton, N.C. In addition to its 3.27-mile natural-terrain road racing circuit, VIR is the cornerstone of VIR Club, America’s first motorsports country club; the VIR Raceplex Industrial Park; the VIR Gallery, a sales showroom for high-end collector and racing cars; Plantation Valley Kart Track, a 5/8-mile paved karting circuit; The Lodge at VIR, a 27-room trackside hotel; the new VIR Paddock Suites and Garages, with 18 dual-purpose hospitality/ lodging units and garages; and the Oak Tree Tavern, a full-service restaurant located within the circa-1840 Plantation Clubhouse.
