Goodwood Festival of Speed. Goodwood England, July 7-8-9, 2006. Honda stars past and present shine at Goodwood Festival Honda’s road racing stars of the past and present shared centre stage at the Goodwood Festival this weekend. Former six times champion Jim Redman, triple 125cc World Champion Luigi Taveri, 50cc Kingpin Ralph Bryans, Tommy Robb and Stuart Graham were all present at the annual gathering of the greats of motorsports, both two and four wheels. The stars of the 1960s were joined by their young counterparts presently contesting the very best two-wheel championships. MotoGP star Casey Stoner was joined by World Superbike rider James Toseland, Leon Camier form British Supersport and the star of the 2006 Isle of Man TT Festival, John McGuinness. The three-day event was a complete sell out with 150,000 race fans soaking up the atmosphere generated by the attendant stars and their exotic charges during the superbly organised celebration of the fabulous history of world motorsports. The Honda Collection Hall sent over a selection of their 1960s RC grand prix winning machines to reacquaint the ever-young Redman with the RC174, Taveri gave the RC162 a blast, Bryans ran with an RC174, as did Stuart Graham, while Tommy Robb rode the RC162, similar to the type he rode to victory at the Ulster GP in 1962. Stoner rode his LCR RC211V Honda that has carried him to sixth place in the world standings. Toseland his race winning Winston Ten Kate CBR1000RR, Honda UK rider Camier aboard his CBR600RR while three-time 2006 TT winner McGuinness took to the track on his HM Plant Hire CBR1000RR Honda. “It’s a perfect event, fabulous to see so many old friends and ride the race machines again.” Said Swiss legend Taveri. “I was really pleased to see so many of the world’s best young riders here enjoying the event. It was good to speak at the weekend with the riders from the new era like MotoGP rider Casey Stoner.” The same is true of the young riders. The could now put faces to the greats of the passed many had only read about and were delighted to share common experiences, despite an age gap of some 40-years “Honestly the Goodwood Festival of Speed in one of the most spectacular events I have ever attended in my entire career. It was nice to meet many champions in two days only! I had fun with many friends as Troy Corser, Troy Bayliss and Randy Mamola but in the same time, I had the chance to meet some of the most experienced and talented riders worldwide such as Jim Redman, Luigi Taveri, Jackie Stewart and John Surtees.” ‘The Goodwood Festival of Speed is a great chance to for racing fans to see their favourite riders and vehicles. The Goodwood House is beautiful and the Race Course through the majestic garden is very impressive. Many fans came to see me during the weekend and I really appreciated it.
