Racer and Team Chicago owner Dan Schmidt, 57, is recovering from a heart attack and plans to make his return to the WERA National Endurance Series on July 15 at Grattan Raceway in Michigan. Schmidt said that he suffered a heart attack June 22 while editing videotape for his public access TV show based in Chicago. “It felt like a had some indigestion and then my arm started to hurt in the classic signs of a heart attack so I called 911,” Schmidt told Roadracingworld.com today. Schmidt underwent surgery June 24th and was released from the hospital on June 25th. “It was so minor, my wife is much more freaked out than I am,” Schmidt said. “They put two stents in and did an angioplasty on a small vein. I feel good and I quit smoking so I’ll be even faster now.”
