Repsol Honda’s Nicky Hayden is still hungry for more race wins in spite of taking his first MotoGP race win away from his home track last weekend at the Dutch Grand Prix and a 42-point lead in the World Championship. “I’m still hungry,” Hayden told reporters Thursday at the pre-event press conference for the British Grand Prix at Donington Park. “There’s a lot of racing left to go. It’s still early in the year. I’m still hungry, but I feel good the way the team is going. My guys are working really hard. I think we’re getting better and better all of the time. They understand me.” Hayden said he was confident and that he enjoyed the challenging 2.5-mile Grand Prix circuit at Donington Park, but he also admitted he needed to improve in the last section of the track, a series of hard-braking zones and tight corners Fogarty’s Esses (chicane), New Melbourne Hairpin and Goddards Corner. “It’s a tricky circuit,” said Hayden. “I quite like it, though, especially the parts where were really going. Down through Craner Curve is quite exciting in MotoGP, fifth gear, quite blind, takes a lot of guts. You’ve definitely got to be brave down through there, but be smart. The last little bit I’ve struggled on in the past, so this year I think we’re going to try to get through the last two corners a lot cleaner.” Hayden is nursing a swollen and painful right thumb, an old injury he aggravated in a crash at Catalunya, but he said, “It don’t feel real good, but it hasn’t affected my lap times.”
