Michael Jordan Motorsports has substantially sweetened the pot of available machinery for this year’s Monterey Classic Bike Auction with the addition of two Superstock race bikes and their newly built street-legal duplicates. Both specimens are Suzuki GSX-R1000s, one ridden by Jason Pridmore in ’05 and the other by Steve Rapp in this year’s AMA Superstock Series. Except for the addition of lights and mirrors, the street versions are their identical twins. While both bikes are outfitted with all the best that Ohlins, Yoshimura and Vortex have to offer, they are distinctly different from one another graphically. Pridmore’s red and yellow ’05 screams speed but also features fine details chronicling Jordan’s 20 years as a Nike-sponsored superstar. The graphics on that bike “include over 200 icons that are meaningful to me and represent important events or people who have motivated me throughout my life,” says Jordan. On the other hand, the 2006 model that Rapp has piloted to an overall seventh place so far this season is a dazzling gold machine that virtually glows where it stands and already says “collectible”. Details and photos of these and the dozens of other machines available for bid this year are online at www.montereyclassicbikeauction.com, as are registration forms for buyers and sellers. The second annual Monterey Classic Bike Auction takes place July 20-22 at the Portola Plaza Hotel in Monterey during MotoGP week at Laguna Seca. An online simulcast bidding program enables prospective buyers to bid in real time at their computer screen from anywhere in the world. A third of the bikes on the block at last year’s inaugural MCBA went to collectors participating offsite via computer.
