Umberto Masetti Former Italian rider Umberto Masetti died yesterday in Italy. He was 80 years old. Umberto Masetti was born on May 4, 1926 in Parma. He started in Grand Prix racing in 1949 in the 125cc. In 1950, he raced in the 500cc class and won his first World title, riding a Gilera. He finished third in 1951 and won again the title in 1952. He was again third in 1955 and sixth in 1956, riding a MV Agusta. He won six Grand Prix races, all in the 500cc class. He also took part in races in the other solo classes; he rode in the 250cc class until the sixties. In the name of the FIM, President Zerbi and CEO Guy Maitre present their sincere condolences to his family and his friends.
