PICKERINGTON, Ohio (May 11, 2006) — Miller Motorsports Park has implemented a number of changes as a result of suggestions made by AMA Pro Racing and its riders after the track’s first AMA Superbike test in early April. These upgrades were made in order to produce a safer and more rider friendly track at the AMA Superbike Championship, making its debut at the new venue in Tooele, Utah, on June 16-18. Changes include: “¢ Relocating guardrail at the entrance to the main straightaway “¢ Grading the front straight to make for a smoother racing surface “¢ Widening the front straight by as much as 15 feet to provide a longer merging lane from the exit of the pit “¢ Lengthening and smoothing the curbing on several turns. Dan Solomon, Miller Motorsports Park’s Corporate Sales Manager, Director of Motorcycle Programs said that the track lost four days of operations due to making the upgrades, but feels confident the changes will meet with the approval of the riders on their return. “We’ll see what they think when they come back for testing later this month,” he said. “We sat down with the riders and AMA Pro Racing and they gave us a list of things they wanted done before the race and we’ve done much of what was discussed. We’re trying to make this facility one of the best in the United States and the input we’ve received from the top riders in the country will help us get there.” The all-new racing facility, which sits about a half-hour from Salt Lake City, has gone from planning to near completion in record time. The track was built with motorcycle racing in mind and the AMA Superbike community has had the opportunity to be involved with its design from the onset. “We’re pleased that the folks at Miller have been so responsive to our requests,” said AMA Pro Racing Road Race Series Manager Ron Barrick. “They’re showing a real commitment to providing us with the best racing facility possible. The cooperation between AMA Pro Racing, our riders and our tracks is something we’ve been working hard to improve and it’s gratifying when everything comes together to produce these kind of results.” Barrick added that the Miller facility was designed and constructed with several track configuration options available. Race plans call for the inaugural AMA Superbike event to utilize the 3.06 mile “outer course” also known as the perimeter course. “A handful of our riders suggested we look at the 4.5 mile ‘full track’ configuration which is more technical in nature and adds several corners,” commented Barrick. “However, switching to that layout will significantly increase our TV production costs as well as pose additional logistical challenges.” Barrick noted that running different configurations at future events was a definite possibility.
