Two-time AMA Supersport Champion Tommy Hayden was fastest in Thursday morning AMA Supersport practice at Daytona International Speedway. Riding his Dunlop-sponsored Kawasaki ZX-6RR, Tommy Hayden turned a 1:41.590, which was faster than his qualifying time of 1:41.921 and nearly as quick as his brother, and teammate, Roger Hayden’s pole position time of 1:41.552. Roger Hayden was second-fastest in the session with a 1:42.230, followed by Yamaha’s Jamie Hacking at 1:42.403. Fourth-fastest in the 35-minute practice was Yoshimura Suzuki’s Ben Spies, who improved on his qualifying time of 1:43.217 with a 1:42.568 Thursday morning. Team M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Geoff May, who qualified fourth in Supersport Wednesday with a 1:42.225, did not ride his Pirelli-fitted GSX-R600 in Thursday morning AMA Supersport practice. When asked about the situation, May’s Crew Chief Keith Perry told Roadracingworld.com, “We don’t need to go out. We feel we’ve got all we can get out of the bike. We’ve been here nine days already.
