Road America Announces 2006 Schedule Elkhart Lake, Wis., – Road America has announced the 2006 public event schedule for its 51st season of road racing. Special events and series will continue to be added throughout the season. April 21-23 Championship Cup Series (CCS) CCS racing provides sportsman-level motorcycle road racing with four major displacement breakdowns: lightweight, middleweight, heavyweight and unlimited. There are three major classes for each group: SuperSport, SuperBike and Grand Prix. May 19-21 SVRA Spring Vintage Weekend The Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) offers tightly regulated, wheel-to-wheel racing for men and women who own and maintain vintage and historical cars. With up to 400 participants spanning ten race groups, SVRA events are spectacles of sight and sound. May 20 Family Tailgate Party This family event kicks off the beginning of the summer racing season. Activities include a Big Wheel contest, carnival, pony and helicopter rides, track facility tours, prize drawings, food and beverage sampling, a car show featuring vehicles of all makes and models, and special viewing access of the SVRA Spring Vintage event. Participants may bring their own tailgate picnic or purchase on-site concessions. Free admission. June 1-4 Suzuki Superbike Doubleheader (AMA) The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) sanctions this huge two-wheel event featuring the Superbike Doubleheader, Superstock, Supersport, Formula Extreme, Sidecar and Supermoto classes. In 2005, Neil Hodgson and Matt Mladin were doubleheader winners. Supermoto returns for its second year to compete on the asphalt and dirt Briggs & Stratton Motorplex. The Sentry Insurance Salute to Cycles brings spectators out on the track with their own motorcycles. June 22-25 Kohler / SCCA Chicago Region June Sprints® Over 400 amateur competitors race in 24 classes during this event, one of the Sports Car Club of America’s largest races and the first in the Triple Crown of Racing. July 7-9 Ferrari Challenge Road America is a favorite circuit for this international series, which allows Ferrari customers and owners to compete against one another. For participants and spectators, the Ferrari Challenge provides a perfect way to watch enthusiastic drivers in fierce competition using street-legal Ferrari racing cars. July 13-16 International Challenge with Brian Redman The International Challenge is one of the largest vintage gatherings in the United States with over 30 classes of cars in ten race groups. Homage is paid to the golden age of racing with the 40th anniversary of Can-Am, and the Historic Grand Prix group highlights the spectacular F-1 race cars. Cars and fans spill into the streets of downtown Elkhart Lake Friday and Saturday during the evening auto concours. August 10-12 Camp Jeep® A special event for Jeep® owners, this “camp” features two-and-a-half days of 4×4 trail rides, off-road driving courses, new model test-drives, an outdoor concert, camping, outdoor skills activities, family activities and more. August 17-20 Generac 500 at Road America The American Le Mans Series returns for its 5th year of the 2 hour 45 minute energizing sprint battle. Four classes of machines, with two drivers for each car, compete head-to-head. Support series include Formula BMW, IMSA GT3, Skip Barber, Speed World Challenge GT & Touring, and Star Mazda. Tour de Road America This Peloton Project to benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation is held on Saturday after the races end. Bicyclists of all ages ride around the 4-mile track with series drivers, their teams and other celebrities. September 15-17 VSCDA Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival® The vintage festival is all about the amazing beauty and speed of the classics: Alfa Romeos, Austin Healeys, MGs, Porsches, Jags, Triumphs and Loti. These marques, along with exotics such as Ferrari and Maserati, and pre-war cars such as Bugatti and Aston-Martin are truly “art on wheels.” Road America is a 628-acre, year-round motorsports facility which celebrated its 50th year in 2005.
