Hotbodies Donation And Indy Superbike Wristband Sales Boost Action Fund
The Roadracing World Action Fund, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to reducing racetrack injuries by encouraging the use of soft barriers, has reached a grand total of $398,613.15 received in contributions over the five years since the Racers Take Action! safety campaign began in 2001.
The Roadracing World Action Fund recently delivered 19 new 30-foot inflatable Airfence sections and five used Airfence sections to AMA Pro Racing for deployment at AMA Pro Road Races, and delivered 13 new sections to IMDA for use at AMA dirt tracks, including the Springfield Mile and the Du Quoin Mile. Another three new sections were split between F-USA and CMRA. The Roadracing World Action Fund also has pledged 10 6-foot-long non-inflatable Airfence Bike sections in support of AFM’s efforts to place 80 sections at Infineon Raceway; as part of that deal, the 2006 AMA National at Infineon will see AFM deploy Airfence Bike in front of the barrier Vincent Haskovec hit last May 14.
AMA Pro Racing’s fleet of Airfence will again be deployed at the WERA Grand National Finals, October 12-16.
Hotbodies Racing’s Roger Davies attended every AMA Pro Road Race National this year with his large support team, and has seen first-hand what a difference having soft barriers can make. To support the cause, Davies donated $5600.
Indy Superbikes contributed $2500 raised through the sale of Roadracing World Action Fund wrist bands. Indy Superbikes owner Chris Fruits conceptualized the project, designing and purchasing the wristbands in bulk, and then selling them on the web and at various race events, in order to “raise money, support, and awareness of an essential need for more racetrack safety,” according to a press release on IndySuperbikes.com . The Action Fund wrist band fundraiser will continue indefinitely, and the wrist bands are still available at IndySuperbikes.com .
Race track safety and the use of air barriers was on the agenda of race organizations and individuals who came forward with donations in honor of Vincent Haskovec, who sustained paralyzing injuries in his crash at Infineon Raceway.
Racing 2 Save Lives, a non-profit organization that supports various charities, sent in $500. Executive Director Stan Foxworthy wrote, “I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful job you guys are doing for Vince. Please find enclosed a check from our charity for $500 for the Action Fund in the name of Vince Haskovec. Vince was the first racer that wanted to be a part of our charity, but because of the timing issues with the AMA series he was not able to be involved. We are keeping positive thoughts for him foremost in our mind and hope for a full recovery.”
Former racer Eddie Sandoz, who suffered his own paralyzing injury in a 1997 crash at Loudon, subsequently went back to school and completed his engineering degree, and now works for Honda’s car division as an engineer based in Ohio. Sandoz donated $500.
Sandia Motorcycle Roadracing sent a check for $450. Treasurer Tracy Riffe wrote, “These funds are a donation from our club members to the Action Fund in the name of Vincent Haskovec. The members of the club voted to forego trophies for the July 2005 race event and donated the funds in Vincent’s name. Thanks for all your efforts to make this endeavor as safe as possible.”
Elaine Seasly donates to Roadracing Action Fund regularly through her employer’s Charitable Giving through Payroll Deduction program, with a total of $49.40 received in two quarterly installments. Other repeat contributors include John Butler, whose $50 donation brings his total to $150; Nick Tulloh, $50, for a personal total of $150; Thomas Barfield, $50, for a total of $125; Randy Sinisi, $25, for a total of $150; Fastrack Riders, $195, for a total of $395, and Joe Knight, $5, for a total of $10.
