Special Amenities for Fans Announced for Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals at VIR Alton, Va. (July 5) Lots of motorsports events bill themselves as “more than just a race.” Most of them aren’t. An exception to that rule will be the Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals at VIRginia International Raceway featuring the AMA Superbike Champonship presented by Parts Unlimited, scheduled for the weekend of August 26-28. Colorado-based Race Promotion Management (RPM) has signed a long-term agreement to promote the Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals at VIR, and they are pulling out all the stops to make the event an unforgettable one for the fans. “We’ve been promoting events for a long time,” said RPM vice president Cameron Gray, “and we have learned that Rule No. 1 is ‘Take Care of the Fans.’ VIR is simply an awesome facility for the Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals, and we are thrilled with the opportunity to apply our expertise to make it the best event of the year. We are going to bend over backwards to make sure that the fans get more than their money’s worth. We’ve already announced the installation of two jumbrotron screens to help the spectators see all the action and a fan party scheduled for Friday night. In addition to that, we’re adding some other special touches that will make the difference between a good event and a great event, and we’re positive that the fans will enjoy them.” One of the “special touches” that RPM is providing for the fans is the hiring of internationally known motorsports television personality Ralph Sheheen as the public-address announcer for the event. Sheheen, who is familiar to racing fans from his work on Speed Channel, ESPN, CBS and many other television networks, began his career doing public-announcing work at motorcycle events in the mid-1980s, and the first professional event he ever announced was an AMA Superbike event. He has worked with RPM many times in the past, and is an enthusiastic supporter of VIR. “AMA Superbike racing is one of the most thrilling forms of motorsport in the country these days,” Sheheen said. “When you combine top-level competition like the AMA provides with a world-class facility like VIR and a well-run event such as those that RPM produces, it’s guaranteed to be a spectacular weekend for all motorcycle enthusiasts.” Another treat for the fans will be live music throughout the weekend. Moonshine Still, a Macon, Ga.-based six-piece rock-and-roll band that appears in concerts and festivals nationally, will be performing live all day Saturday and Sunday during the Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals weekend. “Moonshine Still is really looking forward to being at VIR to play for the fans during the Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals weekend,” said band manager Gayor Geller. “We’ve worked with RPM before at motorcycle events, and the fans at these races are terrific audiences. Most of us are motorcycle enthusiasts ourselves, and a couple of the band members are friends with Aaron Yates, so we’ll be there as much to watch the racing as we will to put on a great show for the fans.” Yet another highlight of the weekend will be the appearance of the Team No Limit Xtreme Stunt Show. Founded in 2003, Team No Limit Extreme consists of stunt riders Jason Britton, Joey Barta and Eric Hoenshell. Each has a unique approach when it comes to displaying their acrobatic talents on a bike. Untouched in terms of style and stunt execution, this entertaining motorcycle-riding showcase has established a cult-like following thanks to their many national appearances and extreme stunt videos. They will be performing on both Saturday and Sunday at VIR. “The Team No Limit Xtreme Stunt Show has never appeared in Virginia before,” said founder Jason Britton, “so this will be a first for us and a first for the fans in the area. We hear that VIR is a great facility, so we can’t wait to be at the Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals and show the crowd our ‘no-limits’ style of riding.” The event schedule for the Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals will include three days of racing action, including two feature races for the headlining AMA Superbike Championship presented by Parts Unlimited as well as feature races for the supporting classes including the Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship presented by Shoei, AMA Repsol Lubricants Superstock Series and Lockhart Phillips USA Formula Xtreme Series. There are a number of advance ticket packages available for the Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals at VIR. Advance packages include the Flag Room (three-day admission, paddock access, car parking pass, official event program and hospitality on Saturday and Sunday), for $140; Youth Flag Room (5-12 years of age) for $50; the Big Kahuna Super Ticket (three-day admission, paddock and pit walk pass, lap of track, car parking pass and official 2005 Big Kahuna t-shirt) for $99; three-day general admission with paddock access for $55; and pit walk passes (limited availability, good for all practice and qualifying sessions, requires closed-toe shoes) for $30. At the gate, ticket availability will be limited to three-day passes for $60, single-day tickets (Friday only) for $10 and pit walk passes for $40. Currently, RPM is offering a Tiki Man Promotion to fans who purchase their tickets early. While supplies last, each fan who purchases an admission ticket prior to July 8 can choose from one of four free items: free parking (cars only), a free official event t-shirt, a free official event program or a free parade lap of the VIR circuit. To purchase advance tickets, visit www.virclub.com or www.rpmcolorado.com. VIRginia International Raceway is a multi-purpose road racing facility, located on the Dan River between Danville and South Boston, Va., and just north of historic Milton, N.C. In addition to its 3.27-mile natural-terrain road racing circuit (designed to be operated as two autonomous, full-service courses), VIR is the cornerstone of VIR Club, America’s first motorsports country club; the VIR Raceplex Industrial Park; the VIR Gallery, which is a sales showroom for high-end collector and racing cars; the VIR Safety and Security Institute, which provides specialized training for U.S. Government and military groups; The Lodge at VIR, a 27-room hotel overlooking the track; and the Oak Tree Tavern, a full-service restaurant located within the circa-1840 Plantation Clubhouse. VIR made history from 1957 to 1974 and is doing so again. The 2.25-mile VIR North Course circuit on which the Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals will take place has 17 challenging turns and 130 feet of elevation change. In addition to spectator events, the track is also available to rent for testing, driving schools and club days.
