McBAIN WINS IN CANADA Team Suzuki Press Office – July 4, 2005. Clint McBain completed a clean sweep at Race City Motorsport Park by winning the Parts Canada Superbike Championship double header in Calgary at the weekend. In a near repeat of his victory in Saturday’s opening race, the 32-year-old series veteran put his Blackfoot Suzuki GSX-R1000 into the lead from the start and proceeded to dominate the 18-lap race around the 3.2km Race City road course. Jordan Szoke finished second on his Fast Company Honda CBR1000RR, 3.024 seconds behind with Francis Martin third on the Snobgirls / Laval Moto Suzuki GSX-R1000 after a fierce battle with Szoke. “Today was a big relief,” said McBain, who clinched his first Canadian Superbike Championship event. “It was time I got to the front. I proved I could do it and I did it in style.” The win gave McBain the lead in the series after three of eight races. He now has 139 points to the 134 of Martin. Although McBain was a little slow off the line he had the lead by the time the field hit turn one and by the end of the opening lap, was almost a second clear of the pack. Behind McBain a fierce three-way battle was waged for second between Szoke, Martin and the second Blackfoot Suzuki GSX-R1000 of Kevin Lacombe. Results 1.Clint McBain (Suzuki GSX-R1000), 2. Brian Nielsen, 53 More, from a press release issued by Waznie Racing: Race City Motorsport Park Calgary Alberta July 2, 2005 Parts Canada Superbike Championship Round 2-3 The weekend starts with a 3rd place finish! Jordan qualified his Honda CBR100RR in third position for the double header this weekend here at Calgary’s Race City Motorsport Park with a 1:17.233, his fastest lap here at the two mile road course. Pole was set at 1:16.534 by Blackfoot Suzuki rider and close friend Clint McBain. Weather is typical Calgary (it has rained the last 7 years), with the anticipated precipitation starting just before the Parts Canada Superbike race. Organizers set up a 10 minute ‘wet’ practice to allow the riders a chance for a wet practice, since the weather was dry until that moment for them. To make matters more confusing, the weather changed again and began to dry as the race was about to begin. The race was having two warm up laps, and Jordan decided to change his bike that was set up with a rear slick tire, and a cut front slick to his back up bike fitted with full slicks front and rear to help cope with the quickly drying circuit. Jordan launched from the third place front row position, with a poor, difficult start on his Honda, that carries very high gearing for the fast kilometer long straightaway, and had to battle back from 6th over the 18 lap race to finish fourth. He was unable to catch the lead pack as he was held up in traffic enough that although he was cutting slightly faster laps he could not catch the leaders. Jordan set his best lap time of 1:17.608 on lap 10, the fourth fastest lap time overall in the race. The rain held off for the complete race and the forecast looks like we will have a dry race 2 on Sunday. Race City Raceway Motorsport Park Calgary Alberta July 3, 2005 Parts Canada Superbike Championship Round 2-3 Jordan Nails Second! The wet weather that plagued us yesterday was changed dramatically to a warm sunny perfect day, only to be topped by Jordan’s second place finish in Parts Canada Superbike Superbike Round 3 today. This weekend’s double header was a real nail bitter as Jordan had the battle of the year to fight off Francis Martin to get second behind Clint McBain. Jordan rode the Honda CBR1000RR off the front row third qualifying position with a better start than yesterday to finish lap one in fourth, and then move up and hold onto second over the 18 laps of the two mile circuit with a best lap time of 1:17.350 he set on lap 10. He qualified third with a time of 1:17.233 set on Friday. Jordan now sits third overall in the Canadian Championship quest with 117 points with Clint McBain leading at 139 and Francis Martin second with 134. The next race goes back east to one of Jordan’s favorite Canadian tracks, Mosport Park near Bowmanville in two weeks July 14-17, another double header.
