Wood, 81 points More, from a press release issued by Team Suzuki: Yoshimura Suzuki’s Mat Mladin bounced back from the mechanical woes that knocked him out of yesterday’s AMA Superbike Championship round at California Speedway to win the second portion of the double-header today in Fontana, California as Suzuki claimed one-two-three on the podium. Mladin led all but one of the 28 laps at California Speedway to earn his fourth win of the five-race-old season, the Australian topping his team mate – and yesterday’s race winner – Ben Spies by five seconds. Spies had kept Mladin honest throughout, matching his pace as the two stayed separated by just a few seconds for most of the race. In the closing stages however, Mladin was able to maintain the pace as Spies dropped off, settling for a safe second place and a hold on the championship-points lead. Third place went to Aaron Yates who was locked in a duel with Ducati Austin’s Eric Bostrom for most of the race, but the Georgian was able to hold him off to make it a Suzuki GSX-R1000 clean sweep. Bostrom maintained his pace to finish fourth ahead of team mate Neil Hodgson. American Honda’s Jake Zemke ended up sixth with Michael Jordan Motorsports’ Steve Rapp finishing seventh as Mladin Motorsports Marty Craggill, Clint McBain and Larry Pegram rounded out the top 10 finishers. Notable among the non-finishers was Miguel Duhamel, the American Honda rider crashing out of the race on the third lap but remounting to finish the race.
