The City of Irvine in California has honored the Motorcycle Industry Council with a Family Friendly Business Award for 2005. Irvine Mayor Beth Krom presented a plaque to the MIC at the March 22 city council meeting, and the MIC will again be recognized at the Family Friendly Business Forum in May at the Irvine Civic Center. Irvine promotes activities and resources to support local businesses in becoming family friendly. The MIC was honored in the small company (fewer than 200 employees) category. Hall & Forman, Inc., an engineering, surveying and landscape architecture firm, won for medium company. Option One Mortgage Corp. won for large company. Each winner recognized offers programs, policies, and a family friendly business climate that enhance the quality of life for those who live and work in Irvine. “Motorcycling and ATV riding in America are very much family oriented activities, so it’s fitting that the Motorcycle Industry Council strives to meet the needs of its employees, their spouses and children,” said Joe DiCorpo, MIC vice president of administration. “Our staff benefits from outstanding health programs, a generous 401K program, plus flexible work schedules, paid-time-off, confidential counseling services, fitness club discounts and referrals for various care programs and legal services. We thank our many funding members for allowing us to support and recognize our professional staff as an asset to the industry.” The MIC’s roots stretch back to 1914 and the association relocated to Irvine in 1970. The MIC was created to promote and preserve motorcycling and the U.S. motorcycle industry. The MIC’s focused mission serves both the industry and its customers, the millions of motorcycle and ATV riders nationwide. Located in Irvine, the MIC is a not-for-profit, national trade association representing more than 300 manufacturers and distributors of motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, scooters, motorcycle parts and accessories, and members of allied trades.
