Vesrah Suzuki’s Tray Batey won four WERA National Challenge Series races at California Speedway Sunday, while young Californian Nicky Moore surprised both the series regulars and better-established local stars with three wins of his own.

Batey’s wins came in Open Superstock, 750cc Superstock and Formula 1 on his GSX-R750 and in Heavyweight Twins on his SV1000 Suzuki. Batey’s biggest competition came in the red-flagged-and-restarted Open Superstock race–it took Batey a little over a lap to take the lead from Vesrah Suzuki teammate (and team owner) Mark Junge and set sail. The red flag was caused by Ryan Elleby crashing in turn six on the second lap, suffering hand abrasions that would take him out of action for the rest of the day.

Moore won in 600cc Superstock, 600cc Superbike and 750cc Superbike on a GSX-R600 he and his father recently acquired and prepared. Moore initially had to battle Junge in 600cc Superstock before pulling away, and actually followed GSX-R750 rider Ben Thompson for a couple of laps before making a pass and checking out in the 750cc Superbike Expert race. Moore also finished fourth on his GSX-R600 in 750cc Superstock, behind GSX-R750 pilots Batey, Racers Edge owner Dale Kieffer, and Corey Eaton.

(Note: Results issued by WERA officials at the track showed Moore beating Eaton in 750cc Superstock, in error. The results posted below have been corrected.)
