Vesrah Suzuki’s John Jacobi and Tray Batey won again in the WERA National Endurance Series, wining a 6-hour at Roebling Road Raceway by 3 laps over SBR’s Glenn Szarek and Joe Prussiano.
Team Xtreme’s Mark Edwards and Billy Ethridge finished third overall, two laps behind SBR.
Xtreme 2 finished fourth overall and first in Mediumweight Superbike, another 3 laps down but 3 laps ahead of Velocity Crew.
Mediumweight Superbike contenders Army of Darkness and Vesrah II both encountered mechanical problems, AOD losing time with a shift-drum-bolt problem and Vesrah II losing time getting a chain back on during a pit stop and then crashing out when a front rim broke.
Vesrah Suzuki has won every round of the series so far this year.
The race was red-flagged when Richard Knight crashed in turn one at Roebling Road near the end. Knight is the team owner of Sagrada Familia, win runs in Mediumweight Superbike team. According to the cornerworkers the bike went off the track at full speed. The bike itself tumbled over the tire wall and fence, through some trees and wound up about 20 yards from the road that runs outside of track property. Knight was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in Savannah, and is expected to make a complete recovery despite fairly extensive injuries, including breaking both bones in his left wrist, suffering a compound fracture of the right ankle, breaking his left scapula and breaking some broken ribs. Knight also fractured his C2 vertebrae and has a closed head injury which is being closely observed, but is not major–the doctors don’t expect any complications from it.
Knight will probably be in the hospital for most of the week.
