In a Monday-morning phone call to Roadracing World headquarters, an Alpina Safety Systems representative said it would be no problem to deliver FIM-homologated Alpina Air Modules in time for use at the AMA road race scheduled for May 17-20 at Road Atlanta.
According to Alpina Operations Manager For Motorsports Robert Pertl, “You will have your modules for Road Atlanta, no problem.” Pertl called from Austria, where Alpina is based.
Pertl said he had met with AMA Superbike Operations Manager Ron Barrick on numerous occasions over the last several years and that at one meeting Barrick said the AMA wanted to buy 10 sections. But nothing ever came of the meetings and no order was ever placed.
Donations for our Air Fence fund are racing toward $70,000 or enough for 24 sections of air module, which we have been calling Air Fence. The Alpina system is similar to Air Fence and works in the same way but is known as Alpina Air Module. Both brands are FIM homologated, and the advantage of dealing with Alpina is that the modules can be delivered quickly without a lengthy production delay. Pricing is virtually identical.
