FEATURED IN THE JANUARY 2019 ISSUE OF ROADRACING WORLD…

James Douglas “JD” Beach burst onto the road racing scene in 2007. After winning multiple AMA Amateur Grand Championships in dirt track racing, Beach, a native of Washington, was selected to join the inaugural Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup even though he had absolutely no road racing experience.

“It was a big learning curve,” said Beach. “I didn’t even know how to use the front brake. I would just lock up the rear brake and try to slide the bike. So my very first race on a road race bike was in Spain.”

Beach finished 16th in the 2007 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup Championship. In 2008, he won a race, finished on the podium in five others, and earned the Rookies Cup Championship. But Beach explains that his success did not lead to establishing a career racing in Europe, partly because he did not enjoy being overseas and didn’t seek out opportunities to stay there….

Fortunately for U.S. road racing fans, JD Beach found opportunities in North America to race, and made the most of them. He’s the winningest rider in MotoAmerica Supersport history and he’s stepping up in 2019 to race in Superbike and to chase professional flat track glory as well. Read the January issue of Roadracing World & Motorcycle Technology to visit the young but deeply experienced Beach at his home, and find out more about the man who went back overseas and kicked the butts of MotoGP stars in the most well-known flat track invitational race on earth.
